Longshot Island offers a genuine opportunity for writers to get short stories, non-fiction articles, poems and other work published online, and sometimes in print too. It has no fees, and pays nothing for the work. However, you do get five free copies of the magazine to keep. Additionally, they offer very cheap classified advertising, where you can promote your latest book, service, or blog. Daniel is a very approachable man, and even if you are not successful the first time, you will get great feedback about anything you submit.

I recommend that you give it a try.

I have some good stories that I’m itching to tell, but most of them will be included in a couple of books I intend to write someday (one of them autobiographical; the other one a collection of fiction). So while I am tempted to give Longshot Island a shot, because it would be good publicity for my writing, I also remind myself that submitting stories to a third party runs counter to my long range goals.

    1. I have had a positive experience with Longshot Island, in so many ways. If you prefer to wait to publish your own stories, then I am sure that will work perfectly well for you, David.

  17. Congratulations. I love the Socks post. A friend of mine, David Mark Williams, has written a poem (and it’s also the title of his collection) called The Odd Sock Exchange.
    I hadn’t heard of Longshot Island – thanks for the link, which I’ll check out.
