Back in 1977, I bought a copy of the new album from Fleetwood Mac. It was called ‘Rumours’. Some time later, I didn’t know anyone who didn’t have a copy on their record shelf, or propped up beside their record player. Small wonder that this sold an amazing fifty million copies, and is still being bought today, on CD and download.

I have featured the group before, both in their earlier Blues incarnation, and later on with ‘Big Love’. But ‘Rumours’ is worth a look on its own, as there are few recordings in history that have crossed so many genres, and appealed to a vast array of music fans. This was always my favourite track. It suits Stevie Nicks’ voice to perfection, and strikes the right mood in so many ways. The lyrics are worth adding in full, on this occasion. They meant something to the band at the time, with all their personal upheavals. Forty years later, they are still powerful to read.

  4. After finally building some shelves last week I was able to dig the records out of storage, top of the pile was rumours 🙂 Not that I bought it first time round, most likely second hand from car boot sale or a record exchange shop, but it still sounds just as good 🙂

  10. I also had this one. And several other FM and Stevie Nicks albums. Sold virtually all my vinyls when we moved from Ludlow. So heavy to move about and difficult to store. We never played any so thought it was time to get rid.

  13. A significant song with some significant lyrics. My favourite line being ” like a hearbeat drives you mad, in the stillness of remembering what you had”. Her voice is very charming and a wonderful song that I have now come to love. Thank you for sharing this.

  15. Those lyrics are profound, yes? Especially when they were young when they wrote them. They take on more meaning for me now that I’m older with more to look back upon.
    I ♥ Fleetwood Mac and still listen to them regularly.

    1. I was 25 in 1977, and soon to be married that December. Even then, I really got those lyrics, and the opening lines have never left my mind. Over the years since, this song has come back to haunt me on several occasions.

      1. I have the vinyl….bought all those years ago, plus a CD. As to the motor racing, they used the instrumental part of the track for the opening theme…..it’s now a bit messed about with
