Over here, it is just Wednesday. But to all my American blogging friends, as well as the followers and readers in the USA, I send my greetings. Happy 4th of July to you. I hope you have a great day, however you decide to celebrate it. Best wishes to you all, Pete.

Thank you for wishing us Americans a Happy 4th of July even though I am responding a few days late π I have been working these past two days so I have been busy π Anyway, keep up the great work as always π

It is a big deal for us Colonials but in reality 02 July is the day it happened not the 4th…..but hey we Americans have never been big on accuracy in history…LOL chuq

Many thanks Pete! Those of us who still believe in what America could be have lots of work to do.
My wife’s youngest brother and his wife are moving back to Florida from New Mexico where he was one of those science types working at the secret “labs.” They are retired now and want to be closer to family. Their new house is under construction within walking distance of mine out here in the boonies. They are living in a residential hotel until it is ready later this month.
I am having a small get together at my place today – two brothers-in-law, a nephew (all widowers), his girlfriend, a niece, Pam and Rob and the guests of honor. Lots of good food, scotch and cigars to welcome the long lost in the wild west home!
Besties from Florida.

Enjoy your company, and the scotch and cigars, Frank.
Maybe you can get the lowdown on Area 51 for me, if you give your brother in law too much to drink? π
Best wishes, Pete.

Although Las Vegas puts on a great fireworks display, I’ll probably just stay home and see if I can’t get a page or two written in my detective novel. I’m only 23 pages into it, with over 300 yet to go… So I need to prioritize my time when I have some at my disposal, I’m not dead tired, and my brain’s On switch is functioning properly.

There will be another 4th of July next year, David. It’s not going anywhere. π

Thanks Pete! Thereβs a lot of editorials and essays out there musing how different America would be if we had remained under British rule.

You could come and live here without a visa, for one thing. π π

Thank you Pete. It’s a fun day for us. Sometimes we do our own neighborhood firework display. Sometimes we get a hotel downtown Nashville–300 thousand people cram into Riverfront Park for one of the Nation’s biggest fireworks displays. This year we’re going bowling with my daughter’s fiance. A few beers, maybe a little dancing and a good dinner. Cheers!

I haven’t been bowling since 1971! π
(I was so bad at it, I never went back…)
Have a great celebration, Pam.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks Pete…I wish those poor immigrants whom Trump has put in cages could feel as good about independence day as those scoffing hamburgers and hot dogs and beer – celebrating what – a country that has descended to the lowest possible denominator but still has far to fall?

I understand your concerns, Felicity. I try not to get too political on this blog, if I can help it.
I hope you still had a good day, despite the ‘Dear Leader’. π
Best wishes, Pete. x

I thank you, Pete, for the well-wishes. It’s a fun way to celebrate my community. Off to the town picnic for pancakes and a parade. I’m an anglophile and a proud American. What an oxymoron! Cheers, my friend. Cindy

Off topic: Do you recommend “The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher”?

I liked it, because I really rate Paddy Considine. In fact I watched it the first time, then when it was repeated some time later. It has a great sense of period. There is a one-off sequel, when he has left the Police, and working as a private detective. That was even better, I think.

Thank you very much, Pete. 242 years isn’t very long by European and Asian standards, but we’ve come along way in a short time.

Thanks Pete. We usually spend July 4th barbecuing and meeting up with friends and family.
I wonder if y’all have an equivalent day to Independence Day in the UK. If so, what do you do to celebrate?

Each country in Britain has it’s own ‘national day’, but celebrations are minimal, as except in Scotland, they are not public holidays. I wrote this, about that very subject. https://beetleypete.wordpress.com/2017/04/23/our-national-day/
Enjoy your barbecue, and say hello to everyone, from me in England.
Best wishes, Pete.

That eagle looks fierce, reminds me of that purple guy from the Muppets, think he was called Sam Eagle π

It was a free image from Pixababy. I didn’t think of it being too fierce. π
I know what you mean about the Muppet man too.

Well, Pete.. after all, if it weren’t for Britain we’d never have had a 4th of July to celebrate. Come to think of it.. we’d likely never have had a Trump either.

Thanks, Doug. Two test comments on your blog today, and I couldn’t see either of them.
I agree, you wouldn’t have had Trump (or even you perhaps) without us. But just imagine, you would still have your own Royal Family. (And that smiling Queen- not) They could spend half the year living in an American Palace, and save all your Royal-lovers the trouble of obsessing about them from across The Atlantic. Then slavery would have been abolished in the 1840s, so no civil war either. The map of the USA might have looked very different, if an English-controlled 13 colonies had not decided to ‘expand ‘ west. One of those interesting ‘what if?’ discussions π
Best wishes, Pete.

..and most of all, we’d likely have that Brit accent over here as well.

You wouldn’t have my accent though, Doug. That’s extremely ‘ London local’. π
I reckon you would all sound like Australians!
