I am once again delighted to have had an article published in the latest edition of Longshot Island magazine. As you can see from the cover, the theme this time is ‘Humour’, and there are some delightful illustrations to accompany the stories and features inside.
You will notice that I am credited as the ‘Style’ contributor, and this irony is intentional, I assure you. My own article this time is a re-working of ‘My New Fluffy Gown’, which some of you will remember from this blog.
I sincerely apologise for the shameless self-promotion, but I am obviously very pleased to be in print once more. Please check out the magazine online, and if you like it, buy a copy! (I don’t get royalties) You may also want to consider submitting your own story or feature for possible publication, and links follow.
The photos can both be enlarged for detail. Sorry the second one is a bit wonky!

This is great, well done! I’m part way through a magical realism short story about a would-be demigod that has absolutely no idea what the gods want with him. He feels trapped and tortured in his own skin, and estranged from the world he’s in. He knows he belongs elsewhere, but has absolutely no idea what the gods want from him on earth. He wishes that they’d just tell him, or give him a sign, or any of the other cliche expectations when dealing with Gods, but instead they seem to send him obstacle after obstacle, and a whole load of bad luck. (Bonus points if you figure out the moral 😉 ) anyway, I think I may submit this story to the magazine. It’s their theme at the moment so it’s worth a shot!

Daniel is an approachable man. Even when he rejects a story, he offers constructive advice to the writer, I wrote about that experience here.

This is such a funny story, Pete, I can see why it is published. I never wear a gown, it is far to hot most of the time in South Africa, even for a thin one. I too like to change out of work clothes as soon as I get home but my choice are my baby doll pajamas. Nice and cool in very hot weather.

I would look a bit silly in a baby doll, Robbie. 🙂
It’s cold enough for gowns most days here, and even when it’s unusually hot, I have a very thin one.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed the article

I must admit I haven’t heard the phrase ‘dressing gown’ much over here. Same as night gown, pajamas, or bathrobe I assume? Regardless, nothing sounds better than lounging around the house in such a ‘gown’, especially during the cold winter months that are soon to be upon us! 🙂 Congratulations Pete!

I think you call them ‘nightgowns’, Susanne. Big wrap-around things, sometimes towelling, cotton, or velour.
Thanks for your congratulations.

Loved the article Pete, I have several dressing gowns, known as Pink Fluffy, Spotty Fluffy and White Fluffy, of varying thicknesses for the weather, Phil wouldn’t be seen dead in one 🤣🤣 congratulations on being published and well deserved in the style section!

Thanks, FR. I also currently have three on the go, all of very different thicknesses too. 🙂
Phil needs to embrace the gown! 🙂

A big and well deserved pat on the back and congratulations from me, Pete. Wonderful article. Colorful, humorous and informative–I’m actually considering indulging in one for my self and my husband. It would be fun to lounge around and watch the Tennessee Titans in–that’s American pro football (I know you hate all televised sports). I will see what the selections are on Amazon.

Nice, article, Pete, which I hadn’t read before. Congrats on getting it published! And I have to say, dressing gowns are more lelgaint than the ubiquitous jogging pants everyone seems to be wearing. I inherited a silk paisley one from my father, which I wore for many years…

We are a dressing gown house and there is a lot to be said for not getting dressed till you have some idea what on earth the weather is going to do, but I admire your confidence; I am always worried when the door bell rings. Then there is the dilemma – are you going to get dressed for Skyping or Facetime? I once witnessed mother with a lap top in a cafe Skyping daughter in New Yok – naturally I eavesdropped – did the daughter, in pyjamas as it was early there, know she was broadcasting to a department store?

I don’t do Skyping or Facetime, TS. But if I did, I would be very confident to be seen in a gown. 🙂
I’m sure some of my neighbours must think I own no clothes at all.

I enjoy wearing my dressing gown, too, but I’m afraid I’m not as confident as you and Julie. I always feel embarrassed if I have to answer the door and feel the delivery person – or, worse, one of my husband’s IT clients – is thinking I’m a lazy so and so. I know it shouldn’t matter what they think but…

If questioned, I use two answers. (I am rarely questioned)
1) I am just going to have a bath before taking Ollie out. (Often true)
2) It’s not worth me wearing two lots of clothes in the same day. (Also true.)
You have to ‘don the gown’ with confidence, Mary. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

I did recently have an article published in the ‘Yesterday Remembered’ section of Best of British, August edition (https://www.bestofbritishmag.co.uk/ ), but they didn’t let me know in time to give them a plug – I had to order mine as a back copy.
