A busy reader

Yesterday was a big day on my blog. I got this notification from WordPress.
‘Your stats are booming! beetleypete is getting lots of traffic’.

So I checked the stats to see what was going on. I had posted a fiction story, and a nostalgia piece about schooldays. Both had received over 60 views, which was of course very pleasing. There was the usual smattering of posts that had been read once or twice, and a note that the Home Page/Archives had been read almost 80 times. That should have tallied up to something like 240 views in a day, very satisfying.

But by the time I was going to bed, the daily figure was just short of 400, and with a lot less ‘visitors’ than the previous day. That meant someone had read a lot of my posts, at least 100 or more. I checked the countries that had visited, and found that the UK was topping the list. So I came to the conclusion that someone in the British Isles had sat and read a huge number of my posts. They do not seem to have left any likes or comments, as all of those were from regular contributors.

This post is therefore by way of a ‘thank you’, to that unknown, and very busy reader. I really appreciate you taking your time to read so many posts on my blog. Please come back whenever you like.

    1. Thanks for asking, Cindy. I had a ‘day off the blog’ yesterday, and it dragged on until today, when I woke up feeling a little low, and uninspired.

        Something really cool and exciting? I’m in the mood for some 60s films. There are so many I haven’t seen. A special genre would be nice. Or an actress or actor or director.

          I could big-up Bullitt. Then there’s The Thomas Crown Affair, The Great Escape, The Cincinnati Kid, The Sand Pebbles, Nevada Smith, Love With The Proper Stranger, Hell Is For Heroes, The Reivers, and The War Lover. All of them released in the 1960s.

    1. Fine thanks, Pam. I had a ‘day off’ posting. It was by way of an experiment, to see if people actually read the blog when I don’t post anything. Because I post virtually every day, I often wonder if anything other than those posts get read. As it turned out, I had 50 visitors, and 137 views. 🙂

It seems as if it were 100 years ago, but back when I took a crash course in how to teach English composition (it never took) the overall message was “know your reader.” The instructor intended it to mean, have an idea of for whom you are writing–ages, interests and the like. However, as this post points out, we actually like to know precisely who is reading. And we like reactions so we can know them better. [Notice how I slipped into the role of a writer without going through proper introductions? Sorry, about that, I just think I like to write. :-)]

You put out such a good variety of content, all well written, so it’s not surprising that you would get those kind of views! 🙂 I had a little spike yesterday myself, in addition to my recent posts, I had over 20 views of Archives. I always wonder about those and wish the stats were more precise so I knew what was read. Oh well. I’ll take it anyway! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Susanne. Those spikes are always interesting, and nice to get too. It doesn’t matter how big or small they are, when someone wants to read the archives as well as the latest posts, it’s a good feeling.
