Fear of heights?

James Kingston is a young man who climbs very tall structures, then risks his life by hanging off of them by his fingers. This You Tube clip is not suitable for anyone who has a real fear of being up high, but it is amazing to watch. No safety line, great strength in his hands and arms, and obviously little or no fear.

Depending on your point of view, he is either crazy, or inspiring.

Either way, he is certainly reckless.

  1. I believe there is a “sickness” where the person cannot feel fear and is a menace to society….all I can say is better hi then me…..I prefer to be remembered in a way other the the greasey spot I leave behind. chuq

  2. I kind of ‘get’ wanting to climb the crane but not the hanging by the fingertips. And, I want to know how he pulled himself back up from that position. Going to show it to my other half who has no head for heights!

    1. He has many similar videos where you can see him getting back from such situations, Mary. He must be very strong. I would climb up there, but definitely not try to hang from my hands. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Honestly…people like this are just in my humble opinion, totally insane. I saw a video over on youtube from a similar person in China….only he lost his life by doing something like this. He was also hanging from atop a very high place, but didn’t have enough strength left to clim back up and fell. I mean absolutely no disrespect, as certainly it takes guts to do something like this. But I have always thought life is precious, so why risk it on something such as this.

  4. I have often thought gaining height was a good way to get photographic images of some note. To think he went to all of that trouble and just hung around from his fingertips without taking some (a lot of) memorable photographs. Warmest regards, Theo

  5. I’ve put myself in a few precarious situations when rock scrambling. During my college days in Arizona, I once worked my across the void with my hands, dangling from a rock shelf. Fortunately, it was only a matter of 6-10 feet across. A number of years ago, while climbing the Calico Hills here in Nevada, I put my life in great jeopardy by trying to cross a near vertical rock face using only my fingers and toes. Had I lost my grip, I would have fallen a few hundred feet. In the end, I had to return, as I could see the writing on the wall, so to speak, had I continued. I’m a lot more cautious now, but still take some risks here and there when I rock scramble!

  6. I didn’t watch it. They call it Acrophobia, an irrational fear of heights and I am afraid of heights. Even if I am inside a building and I could see far below, my knees shake.

  7. I bravely watched to the end; I don’t like heights especially with empty space underneath! I imagine one is not actually allowed to do this, but who could stop him once he was near the top.
