Happy Independence Day!

I would like to wish all my good friends in America a Happy Independence Day.

Look on the bright side, if you had stayed as part of England in 1776, you would now be having to try to work out what Brexit is all about!

Enjoy your barbecues and fireworks, and remember those who are no longer around to join your celebrations.

    1. Thanks, Jennie. I think both sides here have actually ‘lost’ as far as Brexit is concerned.
      Those of us who voted to leave have had it dragged out for more than three years, and the remain voters might end up with their worst nightmare.

    1. Hard to say, as many would claim to be the instigator. I don’t like any of the politicians who claim to be the flag-bearer of Brexit. I just voted to get out of Europe, not for the bunch of right-wing yoo-hahs that came with the package, apparently. 🙂

Thank you “reformed oppressor.” To be former, you have had some kind of reformation, Welcome to the light side of the force 🙂 You are quite right about Brexit and Maggie is right but not quite putting a name on our nemesis–he who can not be named. One gets the impression our two democracies (not to mention the others as well) are a problem in search of a compromise, But, from time to time, we get a brief respite when we throw the rascals out. (Anf let the new ones in 🙂 ) Today is a day when we traditionally remember it is all about remembering those who served, went before and left us this “thing we call a country,” freedom, equality, and a good picnic, Warmest regards, Theo

  16. The American Revolutionary War was instigated by rich guys wanting to be richer. So it has been with every other war that followed. They didn’t want the 1% royals owning 99% of everything… They wanted to be the 1% themselves and now they crow and crow like barnyard roosters on thrones of shit.

      1. If only fighting would solve the problem. The problem is human nature, human immaturity. Power corrupts because we have no defense against it. Right or Left does not matter in the least. Right now both sides smell the power. They got the guns but we got the numbers. Even the scent of power can change a man or a woman into a predator.

  18. “My Colonial oppressor”. I love it. We will not be attending any fireworks this year so it will be a fairly quiet day at home. We have some Cornish game hens for the grill. Not the normal 4th of July fare. I am somewhat perplexed about Brexit, but then I am perplexed about our goings-on here, as well.

  19. About the last line about being the former colonial oppresor, I was just curious if you were ever stationed in India. We were a British colony too.

    1. My Dad was. He was in the Army there during WW2, from 1941 until 1946. He loved that country, and told me so much about it. 🙂
      But yes, we were certainly colonial oppressors there too.

      1. 😁 Well, he was here at the worst possible timing with so much of unrest. This place is a lot better now, peaceful and happier. You should visit India sometime to know more about this place. And you will feel more Welcome too. 😁

  22. I asked my son earlier today why he was in casual wear, then I suddenly remembered USA is celebrating its Independence Day. JP Morgan’s head office is in the US.
