I moan a lot on this site about some bloggers, I know. You will have seen me complain about bloggers who follow without ever actually following, or those that only comment by asking me to ‘follow back’. I have complained about people who are blatantly just advertising themselves as SEO, or have a ‘miracle’ way to make a million a year from blogging, and also those who are trying to sell me ladders, or new car tyres. (In Australia!)
So it is high time that I said something positive. Because let’s face it, 99% of everything to do with blogging is positive.
Well done to so many of you new bloggers. Getting out there with bright new blogs, and a good idea what blogging is all about too. Nice comments, engaging with followers, and putting out content worth reading, or looking at. And the same to so many of my own new followers, with your much-appreciated interaction, and genuine following of my blog posts.
Appreciating feedback is just the start though. Learning from it is important too, and if you desire to have a large and regular readership, then quality content is more important than quantity. I am pleased to report that this is exactly what seems to be happening. Great photos, explanatory text, and enthusiasm that comes across in both words and pictures. For those new bloggers who are getting all this just right, I salute you. And those of you writing about your life, your past, and your hopes for the future, you are getting it right too.
It really is great to have so many positive things to say. Some superb articles to read, compelling fiction on occasion, and interesting differences in culture, from all around the world. Exotic travel, as well as fascinating places in your own back yards. It’s all out there.
I think 2019 has been one of the best blogging years ever, and that is due to most new bloggers finally realising what it’s all about.
Community, sharing experiences, empathy, and discovery.
And it’s free too. How good is that?
Thumbs up for this post

I am in such strong agreement with this post! I think that several great informed ideas are making their ways into the blogs, and people are finding ways to strongly engage with their audience, especially as time progresses. I have made this a mission of my own blog as well. This is because I would like as many people to know about the field of positive psychology as possible. I believe that an increased understanding of the field can lead people to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. Feel free to check out my content at any time and leave any contributions that you would like. Great post, very informative and enlightening!

Following. Could you follow me back? Just kidding. There are a few who make it difficult for the many, although I think most of the few are decent people who just excited about any chance of being heard. Some are excited about the get rich quick stories and don’t want to even consider that those are the one in a million stories. You rarely here about the 999,999 who tried really hard, wrote great content but never got more than their friends to read their blogs.

Good to hear positivity about blogging as I have just started this year (having never before even thought about it). I don’t mind the adverts, and recommendations as long as they aren’t overly spam like and I do agree with the point about engaging with other bloggers. Realising this a couple of months in definitely has made my blogging and reading a more positive experience.

Hi, Pete! I’ve been reading a great mystery series by an author named Elly Griffiths about a forensic archaeologist named Ruth Galloway. She’s originally from London but has made her home in near Kings Lynn on the Saltmarsh. Have you heard of the series? Marge:)

You’ve got it down to a ‘t’ Pete.
For myself, I’ve tended towards being lean on the photos because of being very close to the storage limit. So, I then try to keep the text word count down if it’s a photo-less post.
For the record, I enjoy your posts with or without photos.

As you say, Pete, the best blogging experiences are connection and interaction with real followers who comment on posts. I have no problem replying to comments, and I’m happy to say I never have troll comments. Spam gets caught by the spam filter which I empty regularly after scanning to make sure no legitimate comments have ended up there. I am finding it harder to visit the blogs of those who just “like” my posts without commenting. Do you do that? Also, do you routinely follow bloggers who follow you?
LikeLiked by 4 people
I do not routinely follow bloggers, Audrey. Even if I really like their stuff, I have set myself a limit of following 100 blogs. That takes up a fair bit of time, so I only follow someone once one of that 100 ‘disappears’. I generally explain that a couple of times a year, so people don’t get unduly miffed. 🙂
I sometimes leave a comment on the posts of people who routinely ‘like’ my posts, as long as I have a bit of extra time to do that.
Best wishes, Pete.

I know that, David. The viewing stats tell me, and they are very pleasing.
I appreciate everyone who follows, whether they comment or not. I just feel that those who engage with the others through blogging sometimes get more satisfaction out of it. But that might just be my own take on it, and is not meant to be definitive. 🙂

And, you are right about quality content being more important than quantity. Currently, the WordPress Reader is filled with lots of rubbish from people who publish content every ten minutes.

The Spam doesn’t bother me as much as the people who spend day after day complaining about Everything! Spam I can just delete, but then I try to read lobotero’s multitude of complaints and the people who agree with him and all I can glean from that is – there is no pleasing him and he wants everyone else to believe everything is as miserable as he sees it.

I’ve just started blogging, but I wondered if 2019 was too late to start! I have done it to encourage myself to get out with my camera more and appreciate my surroundings more, so I suppose it doesn’t really matter when I start, so long as I enjoy it! It gave me a chuckle when reading about a blogger trying to sell you used tires. Since I posted about breast cancer, I’ve received several comments from someone, (location unknown), telling me about a purported doctor(location unknown) who cured him of cancer; cancer type unknown.
Among the positives you mention, what I appreciate interaction the most.

I guess I ought to be more upset about followers trying to sell me something but I’m not. I just like getting engagement. I get a lot more comments, follows and likes than I used to (most of them non-commercial!) and after the first few years when the only interactions I got were from people I knew irl, it makes a great change.
