Obviously, this is not a dedicated photography blog. I follow many of those, and love to see the outstanding images that people create with their cameras, and sometimes enhance and improve using Photoshop, or Lightroom. I do like taking photos though, as regular readers will know, having seen the many photo posts I have published before. I spent some time last night looking back at every image I have posted here, those stored in my WordPress Media Library.
Many are of Ollie, some of historical sites, seaside locations, or records of trips to places around the UK. I thought long and hard about those I liked best, and surprised myself when I settled on this one. Only a ten-minute walk from the house, on Hoe Rough, a place I go almost every day of the year. The weather is perhaps my least favourite, snow, and the subject of sheep is far from interesting or original.
But I really like it.

Nice one, Pete. The poor sheep look frozen.

Thanks, Stevie. It was taken in the middle of a blizzard, so I was pleased it came out so well.

This is gorgeous. No need to go to the opposite side of the world to find wonders, just to open your eyes! That’s a beautiful lesson.

They are so fluffy! If I didn’t know first hand what a sheep smells like I would probably be desperate to cuddle one.

I agree. They do smell pretty awful. Not so smelly in the snow though. π

I enjoyed the photo. Pete. There’s is something striking about the different colored sheep contrasted against a wintery backdrop.

Thanks, Pete. I like that some of the sheep are hard to see in the snow too. π

It’s a great image. I can see why you like it so much, despite the weather! I saw the skein of geese go over tonight, which made me sad.

Thanks, Mary. Fiercely hot here today, so the snow photo was a cooling reminder. π

Beautiful picture. I can’t imagine how you managed to walk to reach the place in the blizzard though! It makes me feel like shivering.

When you have a dog to walk, you have to go out in all weathers, Shaily.
It had been snowing for days, so I took my camera out, hoping to catch some deep snow.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks, Theo. I had just this one shot, while a few sheep were looking at me. It was still snowing hard, so I got that unintended ‘blur’ that really makes this photo for me. π
Best wishes, Pete.

Itβs a really nice image, Pete I studied photography for years but have gotten rather lazy with it. I always had my favorite images and they were seldom the same images my instructors preferred. I like this one. It takes a minute to settle into, to decide what I am seeing. I was always told that a good photo holds the eye of the viewer. This one really meets that criteria. I think it would make a nice Christmas card.

Thanks, Maggie. I like the way the falling snow has blurred the image slightly, and some of the sheep are looking directly at me. I never alter images with post-processing software, so this was one-shot, ordinary fine jpeg, and straight off the memory card.
Best wishes, Pete.

I chould have moved the composition slightly, to show all of the animal on the extreme right. But a big ugly bush was right next to it.
