Issues and Views

Yesterday, I had some frustrating issues with WordPress over logins, comments, and verification codes.

That generated five posts on this blog, as I expressed my frustrations, warned other bloggers, and finally told everyone it was resolved.

Late last night as I logged off my PC, I checked the stats on my blog for that day. Despite not having posted the episode of my fiction serial, and only posting about my blogging woes, I was amazed to see that it was my biggest day EVER for views on this blog, after more than seven years.

Well over 600 views in twelve hours, beating the previous busiest day by almost seventy views.

I cannot help but conclude that if you want to really boost your readership, then have a good moan about WordPress!

    1. People love to read about complaints, but many are just as thrilled by posts about everyday things like snapping beans, and struggling with an old house. We all have our own ‘audience’, Michele. Keep doing what you do best!
      Best wishes, Pete. 🙂

            1. No, I am not important in the least. Just a regular guy making the most of retirement. I think it would be nice to sit in your kitchen and watch you cook as we chatted. Your blog posts always make me picture you in that situation. x

              1. You are not far off on that. The humble kitchen table has borne all sorts of sorrows . . .and secrets. We have solved problems and dreamed big, while a cake baked or a pot simmered. . .and you would be a welcomed guest. all my best, Michele

  1. Pete’s Word Press Woes—are you getting any ideas for a new serial? Maybe your main character can lose it after a tough day online.😎 I’m glad you sorted it all out.

  2. Hilarious. I spent almost an hour trying to resolve my issue today…you’ll notice I didn’t “like” your post – because I still can’t! They are unable to help me – pushing me to disable cookies and caches, which means I have to re-log in to every single website I follow – and it still did nothing! If only it gave me more views!

      1. Not sure Pete that’s a great question…I don’t think about it because it goes through WordPress and they normally keep everything running smoothly…and if I couldn’t “like” ANY posts I could tackle that, but there are some I still can…

  3. Yesterday, I had the privilege of reading your succession of posts in real-time on my smartphone (which for idiotic reasons I do not use to make comments or likes). I could relate to your frustrations for the impediments Microsoft and WordPress were making to your daily postings and comments. I too get frustrated with the services I am used to using become less than serviceable. You were restrained, my friend. Could it be that the view count was a function of publishing a short series in real-time over the course of your dealings with the interruptions in service? Warmest regards, Theo

    1. I think you are right, Theo. That is exactly what caused the ‘spike’.
I downloaded the WP app onto my new smartphone the other day. Every time I tried to use it, it sent me a verification code to use to log on. When I went back into the app to enter the code, it told me it had expired, and sent another one. And so on…and on…
      Last night, I uninstalled it.
Life’s too short, to try to blog on a phone. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  4. We could all relate to your plight. And to their credit the live chats do help; they really try to resolve your problem. I’ve used it many times and usually learn something new in the process. Maybe I should share more of those to bump up my views! 😁

  5. Could it be that your followers returned time and time again to see if you’d replied to their comments, thereby indicating you’d resolved the problems you were having? Even if that’s the case, it only goes to show you how concerned and devoted your readers are to you and your blog.

    1. Anything is possible, David. Most visitors were from the USA, with the UK next. Hard to tell if they were ‘repeat viewings’, but whatever the reason, I was pleased to see the spike in views. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.
