Some more blogging frustrations

Just when it is the most inconvenient time, my keyboard has decided to play silly buggers. That, or my PC is about to expire, now Windows 7 is no longer backed up.

After problems with the errant ‘W’, the ‘M’ has joined in the game. On top of that, the keyboard keeps being failed to be recognised by my PC, despite being ‘reinstalled’, and the PC rebooted.

So I am merrily typing away, only to look up and discover that nothing is appearing in the text box, and the lights have gone out on the keyboard. Then they come on again, and I type a few words before they stop halfway through a sentence. The local PC repair shop has closed for a Virus Shutdown, and I don’t want to invest in a new PC at the moment.

This has happened no less than ten times, just typing this short post.

So that’s why the serial fiction is on hold for now, and my posts will be considerably shorter for some time.

Still, that might be good news for some of you! 🙂 🙂

  1. I am sorry for your problems, Pete! But, i gives me the chance following up, with the serial. 😉 Sorry, the last days i was a little bit busy. Whenever I wanted to continue reading the series, I was disturbed by someone in real life.
They had not all switched to virtual time management. It says in my email signature when I can be reached. 🙂 Best wishes, Michael
Tip: Temporarily you could also use the Windows virtual keyboard.

      1. With a pleasure, Pete! If you need to use a better one, you can find a small free piece of software for this, at : portableapps.com. 😉 Sometimes its useful working with this free USB-Stick software, instead of installing one. Best wishes, Michael

      1. Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on? Aaaaaahahaha. I’m funny. But seriously stuff like that drives me nuts. We got a new laptop after nine years and it would appear just in time for me to work from home and i can assure I couldn’t just get it running. I called Hewlett Packard until it was working.

  3. It may be about to die as you say, Pete. They do various strange things as they start to go. Of course, it could just be the keyboard. Mine started messing up last week, a k would be followed by a 3 each time. Once a long time ago, I booted up and the computer notified me that the 320 key keyboard was malfunctioning.

320 keys! Yep, I’d say that was a malfunction.

If it acts up again, and you haven’t tried this already. Make sure it is off, then unplug and plug the keyboard cable on the computer a couple of times gently. Hopefully it has just developed some bad contact on the plug. I’ve seen it happen, can’t hurt.

    1. I was surprisingly calm, and sat through another reboot, scan, and other checks. That seemed to cure the keyboard issue, so it is probably the PC ‘breathing its last’.
      Thanks, Mary.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Theo. The second reboot earlier seems to have helped. The Internet signal is still strong here, so I suspect my PC is now ‘terminally ill’. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  4. I thought when my computer was acting up that it was the old Windows 7. I was prepared to purchase a new computer, but when I brought it in at my local Office Depot, the guy said, “No, I’ll put in the Windows 10 and clear out any cookies or viruses.”
Low and behold, for a fraction of the cost – I basically feel as though I have a new computer. I told the guy Windows 10 wasn’t as hard as I had heard and he replied that they finally fixed all the quirks people were complaining about!

    1. Thanks for the tip. GP. If the local computer shop had stayed open during the shutdown, I might have done exactly the same thing. 🙂 But I have found ‘Amazon Refurbished’. They sell Windows 10 PCs at a fraction of the new price, and guarantee them for a year. (Same as a new HP guarantee) They also have a higher spec than the one I am using now. If this one fails completely, I might buy one of those.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Great idea, Marina. My handwriting is not good, but I could use block capitals! I have just done the second reboot today, and it appears to have worked. Let’s see how long it lasts. Seems to be the PC, rather than the keyboard.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I persevered, David. The third reboot seems to have cured it. I now suspect the Win 7 PC is slowly dying, and causing the issues. When things calm down, I will have to invest in a Windows 10 newer model. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  5. (1) Have you removed the key caps to clean inside the keyboard with a Q-tip? (Or at least dragged a blade of some kind through the deep areas that surround the keys in order to pick up dust’n’stuff?)
    (2) Assuming you have a PC tower, have you un/replugged your keyboard, or at least checked the connection? (If you have an AZERTY keyboard, it’s a French connection.)
    (3) It’s not that the M is also acting up. It’s that you’re typing W with the keyboard upside-down. Stop playing “spin the keyboard” while drinking spirits from the bottle, and this won’t happen again.
    (4) I played silly buggers as a child. But as I grew older, I dropped that game in favor of frog racing.

  6. What about getting a cheapo keyboard from Amazon to tide you over, if this lockdown goes on for the 5 or 6 mths they are talking about you’ll go bonkers not being your usual garrulous self and we’ll all forget what’s going on in the serial! There’s one for £9.23 would do the job. It sounds like your keyboard is defo on the way out.

  7. Sh_t happens Pete! At the most inopportune time! The garbage disposal failed in my kitchen sink this week. I think a small knife fell into it unnoticed. Luckily I have a double sink so a repair can wait.

Oh and I purposely left out the I in Sh_t!

    🙂
