Hundreds of thousands ofWordPress websiteswere targeted over the course of 24 hours in a large scale cyberattack with the aim of harvesting database credentials.

The cybercriminals behind the attack were attempting to download the wp-config.php configuration files from users WordPress sites as they contain valuable information including database credentials, connection info, authentication unique keys and salts.

I have found a lot of messages asking me to click on a link to get more followers, you may have received some too, but don’t click on the links!

Make sure your passwords are strong and don’t post anything personal.

If you find any messages asking to click on a link, spam them right away and permanently bin them. If someone asks you for any personal info, don’t answer and spam them.

  3. I am so glad you spotted and shared this, Pete … but I am pretty sure that most of the things I write would confuse the hell out of phishers anyway because it is often difficult to tell from my writing whether I am telling the truth or lying through my teeth. LOL

    1. Very true, GP. I had my email hacked a few years back, and every person in my contact list got sent all kinds of obscene stuff. Fortunately, most of them guessed it wasn’t me!

    1. You can host your own .com site through wordpress using Jetpack. So it’s your site, but you use this platform. It might not be a blog, but a company website, or some other commercial venture. Worth knowing about any hackers though.

  14. Thanks for the info. I’ve not received anything telling me to click a link if I want more followers. I have however, received thousands of spam comments with the same content submitted to the same post.
