Part two of the kitchen decorating saga begins! With the tiling completed, and the tiles having had time to ‘settle’, the painter has started the considerable task of painting the kitchen-diner this morning. We are also havng the dated units rubbed down and painted a light colour, so probably looking at a minimum of four days, possibly five.
After all the stress with Ollie recently, I went to bed at 9:30 pm last night, and slept like a log. Up early this morning to take down the lampshades, strip everything out of the kitchen, and pile most of it into the living room. It’s amazing to realise just how much stuff you have stacked around on kitchen worktops, as well as Ollie’s bed, food and water bowls, boxes of biscuits and food, and his treats container. Fortunately, no rain is forecast, so I was able to put the waste bins and kitchen chairs outside on the lawn. Other than the dining table, which I did not want to dismantle, the room is now completely empty, and ready for work.
I suspect we might be eating out or getting food delivered for a couple of days, as the prospect of having to put everything back and move it all again in the morning definitely does not appeal to me.
It is only 9:15, and it already feels like late afternoon after such an early start.
When the painting is finished, new flooring is next on the list.
Fortunately, we don’t have to move every single thing to allow that to be done.
If any other projects are taken on in 2021, I will want to make them outside ones! 🙂
Seems its going on, in a great way Pete!Congrats, and i hope Ollie has observed all the work. 😉 Michael

Unfortunately, the painter had a domestic problem, and had to leave halfway through. So now we have to try to find someone else to finish the job!
Best wishes, Pete.

Sounds you will need more than one time for cleaning too. Good luck!

I cooked some chicken Chinese-style last night, but this evening we are going to an Indian (Bangladeshi really) restaurant to eat out. The restaurants are open for the first time since March, with ‘social-distance’ seating. I am looking forward to some Tandoori! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Tandoori???? 🤤🤤🤤🤤 it’s been months since I had that yummy dish. Why are you making me jealous? Cooking tandoori is very hard and problematic. I hope you have a great meal and do remember me while eating it. Btw what time is it there right now??

Well now it is 8:40 pm, and I am just back from the restaurant. I had Tandoori Mixed Grill, which is 1/4 of a tandoori chicken, lamb tandoori cubes, more chicken tandoori cubes, and two tandoori prawns. With that I had a side order of Sag Poneer, and a Garlic Naan. Delicious!
When I replied earlier, it was 5:30 pm here.
Best wishes, Pete. xx

Wow, right now it’s 5:03 pm here. I can’t believe you ate all this. Since 4 months I haven’t even seen tandoori. It is very hard to cook although my mom knows how to cook it but we don’t have a grill at home so it sometimes burns. My mom is a genius at cooking tandoor items. It is not Sag Poneer, it is Sag Paneer and I love Garlic naans. I really hope you had a great meal, Pete. I hope Covid-19 goes away soon so that we can go out to eat. I already feel hungry. 😶💖✌😊

It is called both Sag Paneer and Sag Poneer here, depending on which restaurant you go to. I am sure your spelling is correct, dear Suzan. 🙂 🙂 x

I hope your eye treatment went well? (If you already had it that is)

Good news: You didn’t have to do the work yourself.
Bad news: You had to pay somebody else to do it.

I think I would happily pay someone to do most things now, Pete. With the exception of walking Olllie of course. Feeling my age! 🙂

I have to thank you for continuing to give me disincentive to remodel. Every time I read about one of your projects I decide to leave well enough alone!

If I could just go away somewhere, and return to a finished room, that would make me so happy. Sadly…

We did do that when we had the wood floors sanded and varnished on our first floor. It was lovely to come home to them.

The gravel-covered driveway is overgrown and shabby. That is scheduled for concreting over next year. At least we will only have to move the cars! 🙂

We gave it a good clean before and after the tiling, and will have to do it all again after the painting. Shame they couldn’t have worked during the same period and saved us 50% of the cleaning! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Remolded the upstair’s bathroom. Rough on night time bladder calls. Two flights of stairs to get to the lower one.

That’s why we live on one level now, Don. 🙂
In 2011, when we were house-hunting in Norfolk, we were ‘thinking ahead’ about stairs!

We’ve been in this house 50+ years. Nice acreage filled with wild life. I rationalize the stairs by saying they are good exercise. But any move will be to a one level.

Sounds like it would be a wrench to leave such a nice place, Don. Understood.

Pete, I have used my #quarantinetime to begin a much needed “spring cleaning”….the kitchen is a great place to start – I opened up a cabinet and tried to remember the last time I used the “salad spinner” – it takes up a quarter of the space and hasn’t been “spun” in a decade…so I “spun” it into the garage for further decay! One down, way too many to go!

I haven’t even owned a salad spinner since the late 1970s. I think it was used once before being thrown out. The bread maker machine that was only used once was recently stored away in the loft when the tiling was being done. “In case someone wants it”. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks, Jennie. I never post photos of the inside of my house. Although Beetley is relatively crime-free, I wouldn’t want anyone online to be able to see the layout of the doors and windows, window locks, and other security. You never know! 🙂

As we are not having new units, it is fortunately only cosmetic. He tells me we will be able to use the kitchen as normal every evening, if we want to. Got to find somewhere else for Ollie to sleep for a couple of nights though, so he doesn’t cover the new paint in dog fur! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

My better-half is now talking new windows! It may not sound like much, but with all the HOA regulations, with even new walls being built, I am NOT looking forward to it!!

We had new windows last year, and it was surprisingly trouble free. Other than the need to replaster part of the interior wall above the kitchen window, (which they included in the price) they did the job in record time. And I didn’t have to move anything, except some framed photos from a window ledge! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete

It should work that way in our bedroom, but the Florida Room will be without 2 walls for almost 2 days, and everything, including the big freezer, will be in the living room.

Yep, having the kitchen done is the most disruptive. Though, having said that, when we had the bedroom done I was astonished to find it seemed to impact on almost every other room in the house!

Last year we had the kitchen and dining room re-plastered. Both rooms were stripped down to the brick. Awful. I cannot begin to tell you the disruption this caused! The rooms look great now, and we’ll never have to wallpaper again. I’m gearing up to having the hall and stairs plastered this coming winter, but I’m not looking forward to it

Plastering is a nightmare indeed, and I am glad we are not having that done. I haven’t had wallpaper since the late 1970s, and have no intention of ever having any again. Too many hours wasted scraping the stuff off walls! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes, and it’s old-fashioned now. We’re slowly getting each room plastered so we only ever have to paint.
