This 101-Year-Old Tattoo Artist Is the Last of Her Kind

I should state from the outset that I am not a fan of tattoos and body piercings. In most cases, they are permanent things that cannot be undone, so should not be taken lightly. I have never had one, and never would, but I respect the fact that it is everyone’s right to choose what to do with their own body.

However, I do admire tradition, and my friend Antony sent me the link to this short film about a remarkable lady in The Philippines who is doing her best to ensure that her own ancient ways are continued on through her family.

So if you ever fancy having a coal tattoo hammered onto your body using a thorn from a plant, you now know where to go.

  1. I feel exactly the same way you do, Pete, and it is gratifying to read that plenty of other people do, too! To some extent, it is a fashion or fad, but it seems to have also become somewhat ingrained in our society. Still, chacun à son goût, I suppose [and live & let live, of course!]. Cheers, Jon.

    1. Fuelled by tattooed celebrities and sports stars, pop stars and TV presenters. I don’t get it, and have never seen the appeal. But we are definitely in a minority these days.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  2. A brilliant I don’t have tattoos and probably never would unless hubby really peeded me off…haha..thats what I tell him as he is like you and would never have one…I used to love sitting on my granddad’s knee and he would tell me about all his tattoos and where he got them and why they fascinate me just not enough to have one myself…A great share , Pete 🙂

  3. Tattoos have become so popular in the United States. It seems like 75% of the young people I see at the gym have several. This old dog will remain tattoo and piercing free.
