I should state from the outset that I am not a fan of tattoos and body piercings. In most cases, they are permanent things that cannot be undone, so should not be taken lightly. I have never had one, and never would, but I respect the fact that it is everyone’s right to choose what to do with their own body.
However, I do admire tradition, and my friend Antony sent me the link to this short film about a remarkable lady in The Philippines who is doing her best to ensure that her own ancient ways are continued on through her family.
So if you ever fancy having a coal tattoo hammered onto your body using a thorn from a plant, you now know where to go.
Ouch and no, thank you💖✌😊

You can say what you want, Pete. Tatoos are too curious to me. In my eyes its like the branding for animals. I am to selfish for this. 😉 Michael

I have never liked them, especially on women.

I fully agree. My last girlfriend had looked like a canvas for Michelangelo’s design sketches. Lol

Many young people flock to her. I guess she has an assistant training to be a tattooist too.

Yes, it’s her granddaughter, Arlene.

Young people who get tattoos don’t think of the future when their skin begins to sag and likewise the tattoo. Not good…

Yes, they don’t look so good once the people turn 60, that’s for sure.

I feel exactly the same way you do, Pete, and it is gratifying to read that plenty of other people do, too! To some extent, it is a fashion or fad, but it seems to have also become somewhat ingrained in our society. Still, chacun à son goût, I suppose [and live & let live, of course!]. Cheers, Jon.

Fuelled by tattooed celebrities and sports stars, pop stars and TV presenters. I don’t get it, and have never seen the appeal. But we are definitely in a minority these days.
Best wishes, Pete.

A brilliant video..no I don’t have tattoos and probably never would unless hubby really peeded me off…haha..thats what I tell him as he is like you and would never have one…I used to love sitting on my granddad’s knee and he would tell me about all his tattoos and where he got them and why they fascinate me just not enough to have one myself…A great share , Pete 🙂

Thanks, Carol. When I was young, my dad and most of the men who had served in WW2 had tattoos. I think that is what put me off them.

Tattoos have become so popular in the United States. It seems like 75% of the young people I see at the gym have several. This old dog will remain tattoo and piercing free.

Same here, Pete. Almost everyone between 18 and 40 has at least one.
I’m staying ink-free too.

I can’t believe this woman is 101 years old. The way she talks and the profession she is still carrying out, she has my deepest respect. Amazing video Pete, thanks for sharing it😊

Thanks, but no thanks. It took me years to pluck up the courage to have my ears pierced never mind having any tattoos.

I get that, Mary. But I like her spirit, even if I don’t want her tattoos.

But still getting one of those must have been a proud moment in the lives of those warriors–a reminder of their valour in war.

I prefer the Mehendi tattoo. They are not painful and gradually wash away after a few days. I am not the one to go the ‘ouchy’ way.

I would imagine that the plant thorns are sterile, at least until the old lady starts handling them. 🙂
