Over the past week, I have noticed something happening around the blogosphere.
Early Halloween posts, to be exact. Whether they are already listing films or books with scary or ghostly themes, or talking about haunted houses and paranormal happenings, they are creeping in daily.
A reminder of the date.
It is the 19th of August.
Yes, it’s not even September, and some bloggers are posting about Halloween.
I am notorious for moaning a lot, and coming across as grumpy. But come on! Halloween in August? It gets earlier, and sillier, every year. I’m sure it won’t be long before we get Halloween posts in January, with a ten-month countdown to the ‘big day’.
So in the spirit that seems to be the way of things in blogging, I thought I would also get in early.
Merry Christmas, to all my friends in the blogging community.
There are only 128 days to go, after all.
Normally, Aldi and Lidl start selling Christmas cookies at the end of August …
This year nothing is normal. Good on you for telling them, Pete! 🙂

Thanks, Dina. The seasonal celebrations are losing all their charm and appeal. People can no longer wait for anything.

Pete, I am completely in agreement with you! It’s kind of crazy-making — and annoying. The Hallmark television channel is running Christmas movies EVERY day. It started in July. Talk about overkill!

Lol – Thank you, Pete. But dont remember me on the cold and dark days around these celebrations. In my opinion we should cancel winter, and for them want to celebrate Christmas we should build something like a “Centerpark area”. Lol

I would agree with that completely, Michael.

Thanks for the reminder, Pete. I have been so engrossed in prepping for a COVID Holloween, I forgot all about Christmas and with social distancing and all, Christmas is going to be a bugger this year, so need to get on it right away. 🙂 Warmest regards, Theo

By the time the holiday gets here, no one really cares. I’m still working on my time machine, so I can go back to the older days, when holidays meant something, and people could stay home on Thanksgiving and Christmas with family.

You might or might not believe this, but I’ve just seen a tweet informing us that the mayor of Vigo (quite a large city in the North West of Spain) has started getting the Christmas lights installed.
Be careful what you wish for. I think we all want this year to be over, but this is a bit much. Take care!

Yep. The stores here started putting out Halloween candy the beginning of August. Don’t judge me but I’ve had my Halloween display for the last couple of weeks. I love the holidays, and this year especially they’re taking on new meaning.

And a happy new year? I can see why people might be hopeful the new year might be better than the current one, but I do know what you mean.
I always have a weird feeling when I first see bloggers from Australia or New Zealand posting spring flowers because it makes me feel like autumn is not far away for us.

I just don’t get why people can no longer resist these early ‘celebrations’. It’s like binge-watching all the series on TV, and then having nothing to watch! 🙂

Funny, you now have me remembering a dream from the other night. I came across bushel baskets in our kitchen filled with trick or treat candy, then got a warning not to touch any of it.
The twist, of course, is that with the Covid restrictions, we probably won’t be having trick-or-treaters.
As for Christmas, one of our favorite traditions, the Revels, has announced the cancellation of the 18 live performances, supplanted by a virtual production.
How can we match these realities with fiction?

I understand that 2020 is a strange year, but cannot understand why people can no longer wait for their seasonal celebrations. This has been happening long before the pandemic.

A lot of it is down to commercialism, I’m afraid Pete: no sooner have the kids broken up for summer [normally, anyway, although I think this year was pretty much the same, notwithstanding the circumstances] than any outlet that sells school clothes, kit etc., is advertising ‘Back to School’: give the poor kids a chance! Cheers, Jon.

I’ve already seen a Christmas tree in a shop I visited recently on the IOW. I couldn’t quite believe my eyes. My glasses were steaming up because of the mask, but there was definitely a Christmas tree standing there.

Well…don’t really know what to say here really? Should I apologise for making a post yesterday where I’m counting down to Halloween?😢 I have been out of the blogging world for a while, and I definitely wanted to do something with horror since I haven’t been doing that in a while. So I thought it would be nice to make a series of posts about horror, and Halloween seemed like a perfect excuse for that, even though it’s a while since that is happening. But well…guess that didn’t come out the way it did apparently and it now seems silly😢😢

It isn’t just you, Michel. It has become an August blogging epidemic! It must have something to do with the lockdown, and wanting to anticipate a fun time, I suspect. And this post isn’t that serious, so absolutely no need to apologise. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Okay, well..it’s all good then, because honestly I was a bit hurt while reading this post this morning by one of my favorite bloggers😢 But yeah, for me it’s pretty much that: my blog has been out of the loop for quite a while, and with horror being one of my favorite things I definitely wanted to do something fun in what is arguably one of the worst years in recent memory 😊 Have a good day Pete😊

Hey Michel, we all are allowed our own perspective. I remember the days when my countdown to next birthday began at 364 days…😁 and Deepawali that comes around the same time as Haloween (It is celebrated for the return of Lord Rama after exile. It is supposed to be the darkest night of the year when lines between normal and paranormal thins and dark magic is common.). I’ve seen people begin preparing for Deepawali months in advance–house renovations, new clothes, crackers, earthen lamps, coloured fairy lights… So if you want to begin a series early, it should be fine, as long as you can draw it until haloween.

Thanks so much for the kind comment😊 True enough, but honestly my post wasn’t even really intended for Halloween…it was a good excuse to churn out some horror content, and I thought “ why not combine it with Halloween 😉” I googled a bit for Deepawali, having never heard of it before (Sorry😅😅), but I like the meaning behind it: (Good thriumphing over evil, and also it being called a festival of light). Thanks again for your comment😊
