A ‘Just In Case’ Post

After being told off by WordPress earlier, (see previous post) it has occured to me that they might well cancel my blog without warning. It’s not as if they need my money, and they do consider me to be in contravention of their guidelines.

So if I disappear, that will be why.

With that worst case scenario in mind, I would just like to say it has been a great pleasure getting to know all of you, and of course considering many of you to be my good friends.

(And if you email me, I will tell you how the current serial ends. But only if they ban me. 🙂 )

    1. I don’t have enough time to save all my blog content, Olga. I am up to 3551 posts now, and saving all that to a portable hard drive would take forever. As I am still here, I am hoping they have forgotten about me by now!
      Best wishes, Pete.

  1. Hi Pete, I hope the fact that I have the old system back means wordpress took your complaints to heart. I shall stay as long as it lasts because I can’t fathom the blocks.
I did wonder if the fact that I have a free blog meant they didn’t care what happened to me but I hope it means I don’t have to change.
I wasn’t sure where to go if I left wordpress and how to take all my friends with me.
    Best Wishes.

    1. I doubt they will, Kavita. However, after they removed a page of my blog content that criticised WordPress, and issued me with an email warning, I had to consider it as a possibility. Luckily, I am still here this morning!
      Best wishes, Pete.

  2. I’m rather reluctant to be identified by Big Brother at WordPress, but just this once here’s an idea. Like you WordPress hosts my site, but can ‘The Powers That Be’ interrogate a self-hosted WordPress site. And if not, you could make a copy of BeetleyPete and become an outlaw in the hinterlands of Norfolk.

    1. It’s a thought, David. However, I fear they are big enough to interfere with self-hosted sites too, as they would need to be passed through WP to reach the same followers.
      Best wishes, Pet.

        1. It’s as easy as this, once you are logged on and live online.
          Keystroke logging
Keystroke logging, often referred to as keylogging or keyboard capturing, is the action of recording the keys struck on a keyboard, typically covertly, so that person using the keyboard is unaware that their actions are being monitored. Data can then be retrieved by the person operating the logging program. Wikipedia

    1. ’60 million blogs
WordPress has about 60 million blogs. Blogging has grown by 12% since 2015. At this moment, there are roughly 1.9 billion web pages.’
Cheers, Eduardo. Given the above stats, I doubt they would notice. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Pete this is terrible, I really hope this does not happen to you because I love your blog. See If there is a way that WordPress can let you keep your blog because you always make any day special with your thoughts.

  4. Yikes! I hope you don’t disappear from the blogosphere! I remember your block editor post but I don’t remember there being an email posted that would become an issue. Hang in there, and if worse comes to worse move to a different platform and we’ll follow you there! But I’m hopeful it won’t come to that. 🙂

  5. It might be worthwhile for all of us to have a look at WP’s Terms of Service, just so we know where the line is that we must not cross. Of course ToS documents are deadly dull and labyrinthine, maybe deliberately so, to keep people from reading them.

    1. Thanks, Audrey. I am sure they can change the rules as they see fit. I doubt they expected such a reaction to the Block Editor, and hoped we would all ‘go quietly’. Bullies hate to be proved wrong.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Michele. Hopefully, I will still be around. But after getting that warning, I felt I had better post something about it in case my blog had disappeared tomorrow. 🙂

    1. I haven’t apologised, Sarada, and will definitely not be doing so at any stage. They just removed my blog post content and replaced it with their own comment. I think it’s disgraceful that we have no possibility of direct contact with WP outside of the so-called ‘Happiness Engineers’. To just remove my content without consulting me, when it was not offensive, was unacceptable to me, whether or not it upset their guidelines. They could have just taken the email address away if they considered that a step too far, or allowed me the option to edit my own post accordingly.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. In this case, Big Editor, Elizabeth. 🙂 They were able to remove the content on my blog post, and replace it with their own statement. Makes me wonder what else they have been replacing.
      Best wishes, Pete.

        1. I have been campaigning against the Block Editor being forced on people, and I passed on the email address of a WordPress employee responsible for it so people could complain directly to him at work. They removed the wording on my original blog post, and replaced it with a statement.

  6. If that’s going to happen I’m going to start a petition and reaching out to each and every blogger I know to bring you back. I’m just hoping it’s not going to happen at all. I remember that they once banished Dani for some weird reason, and she came back as well. But well, as I said I hope it’s not going to happen period. Just know that if that worst case scenario does come to pass, I’m going to fight for you! Blogging wil simply not be the same if you aren’t here. I really mean that!😊

    1. Thanks very much for your kind words, Michel. But if they did ban me, I’m not so sure I would even want to come back. Nonetheless, it’s great to know I have your support my friend.
      Best wishes, Pete.

      1. Well…let’s hope it won’t happen at all, and we don’t have to face that scenario. I really mean it, if you would be gone from wordpress I know I speak for a lot of people here, you would be sorely missed😔 So yeah…let’s hope that this scenario doesn’t come to pass😊

  7. Hi Pete! Just a quick comment to say have you thought about self hosting? I’m so glad I no longer give WordPress my money!
If it’s something you’re interested in I’d recommend Lyrical Host – they’re UK based and have amazing support ☺️
