Queen’s Park: Mablethorpe

On the recent holiday to Lincolnshire, we walked just over three miles to the nearby town of Mablethorpe. This rather down-market seaside resort is still very popular, and as well as a busy beach, it has an old fashioned park with a boating lake.

(All photos can be fully enlarged by clicking on them.)

The swan boats were all stored in the centre, as there was no boating going on, presumably because of Covid-19.

Someone was working on the red boats that day.

  1. Picture #1: That bird is busy enforcing the “Keep Right” rule. As to how he would intervene should a boater defy the law and go left, the bird admits that he’ll have to cross that bridge when he comes to it.
Picture #2: I think Marcel Proust had a Swann boat.
Picture #3: I see red boats 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10. I think boats 3,4, 6, 7, and 8 were sad and blue because no one photographed them. I might be wrong, but it’s a theory worth floating.
Picture #4: Boat 2 is on a leash. Someone can walk on water!

  2. Looks like a nice trip Pete…it is strange right now to visit places that are closed or partially open due to the pandemic…hopefully, we can get back to whatever our “new normal” is gong to be so that these businesses can survive

    1. Yes, the town beyond was very busy, as was the beach. But the park was almost deserted. I like the old-world feel of that little park a lot. It also has a crazy golf and miniature railway, but they were both closed up.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  3. A very welcoming sight, Pete. It looks well kept, clean, nice and tidy – and lots of red always look well. Very good, apart from the one thing missing in all your photos; dear πŸ• Ollie! πŸ˜‰
But I think I know where to find him …

“A small park in a seaside town where nothing has changed in decades.” That wouldn’t fit anywhere on the North Norfolk Coast, going so upmarket that locals hardly can afford to settle.

It’s quite a windy day in Cley today, but lots of sunshine. Hope you and Ollie are enjoying your walk.

Best regards from the four of us,
