Missing Twitter?

I haven’t had access to my Twitter account for some time now. They wanted to send a verification code to my mobile, and that wasn’t working.

I have been informed that the phone is now repaired, and ready for collection. Unfortunately, I cannot collect it until I have had a result of my Covid-19 test, so I remain phone-less. (That is not good grammar, I know.)

Other than the occasional personal message, I only ever used Twitter to publicise my posts, and those of other bloggers I follow. I gave some time over every day to quickly scroll through the fast-moving timeline, and retweet as many posts as I could, before being overwhelmed by the duplicates, and the constant flow of new tweets. I know some people appreciated that, so I kept on doing it.

But since my absence, I doubt I have been missed. The ‘Twitterlanche’ of constant tweets has gone on without my presence, and not even noticed I wasn’t there.

Thinking about it, do I really need to bother, once I have my phone back?

The jury in my head is out.

    1. That’s good to hear, Abbi. I have avoided Instagram manily because I almost never take photos on my phone. Besides, blogging takes up far too much time already.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  1. I normally retweet information about books and blogs I follow, although I don’t think it does much (but other people seem to think it helps, so, why not?) As for me, I normally only check for news every so often and have a laugh at some of the TT (trending topics) but… I used to pay it a lot of attention but, as you say, it’s impossible to keep up. 😉

  2. Hey Pete! How are feeling today? ‘Phone-less’ is progress…it is a term to be used in future for the ‘unfortunate people who do not have the privilege of being able to Twitter, Facebook, Google, Message, and, of course, Make a call!’ Social media doesn’t get time to note when people are gone. Honestly, I haven’t opened my Twitter account in nearly six months. The post I tweet are directly connected to WP and automatically posted.

  3. I never started it and don’t expect I will. I dabble with Instagram but don’t see the point. The experts tell me I’m supposed to have a writer’s platform which includes having more than a website and blog. Sigh. I wish they’d all go away and let me write in peace. If I had disposible cash, I’d pay someone to do my PR for me. 😉

      1. Ha! Did I misplace my modifier or something? I will be floating under the blue sky while snapping shots as I maneuver my kayak around the lake. I will nervously pray I don’t fall in because those fish are huge and nasty. 🙂

  4. Glad to know your phone is fixed — for the little good it’ll do you until you can get out, again. Can you track whether Tweeting makes a difference in your readership? That would be a reason to continue.
Any idea why Twitter wanted your cell number? Wishing you and Julie and everyone in this community well.

    1. Twitter wanted my number to text me a ‘security code’. I can see from WP stats that Twitter activity is minimal regarding my blog, but I do like to help my friends.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  5. Good question – and for me it was not worth my time – but I never found a Twitter groove
Also – it does depend on how your impact was going – if a few special connections are there it might be worth using it weekly for maybe an hour – that could be win win

      1. My husband uses an app that helps him track his social media time – and once in a while he ignited mores it – but it really helps him be more intentional about where and how he spends his time – because the black holes are very real and some things are time robbers with very little pay off- which I think is what you were pondering – the ROI and the use of your time – best wishes to you 😉

  6. I hardly do anything with social media. I have a facebook account but that’s mainly for some mobile games that I play. I never post anything on it. Twitter I’m using for exactly the same reason as you, but that’s pretty much it.
I definitely have always appreciated the retweets though, so really thank you. I’m glad to hear that your phone is fixed though! That’s at least a bit of good news! 😀

  7. I miss your presence on Twitter and am always grateful for your tweets and retweets. I’ve been thinking about Twitter asking for your mobile number – not everyone has a mobile phone. What would happen if you gave them your landline number – or don’t you have one?
