Mobile Recovery

I picked my phone up today. It had been ready for collection, but I had to delay visiting the shop until my Covid test came back.

Full marks to the guy in the EE shop. He set it up for me, disabled the troublesome ‘lock code’, and after fiddling around with the menus, he even got back all my contacts!

Nice to be impressed with shop staff, isn’t it?

After all this time, I have a working phone again. Of course, I don’t need to ring anyone, but that’s not the point!

My printer won’t print anything though. That needs repair or replacement, I suppose.

As I am finding out, you can’t have everything. And you have to try to be happy taking what you can get.

    1. I have put it down to the disastrous effect on retail because of the Covid shut-down. If they want to remain open and keep their jobs, they are going to have to start pleasing the customers for a change.
      best wishes, Pete.

  1. That was good news. I think I may try EE for a new phone as my old Samsung runs out of data and battery power very quickly and I have been afraid to download any apps so I can’t get the local bus service or many videos. I think Whatsapp is devouring the power ( or maybe it is Google play) but I don’t understand how to fix the settings and the Virgin shop ond carphone warehouse have moved out of town so I’ll have to ask someone else.
As long as I can keep my nimber I don’t care what phone I have – the less complicated the better. I may even try a Doro.
Printers don’t seem to last very long. I’m on my third one. Good luck.
    Julie.

    1. Whatsapp will be the problem, undoubtedly. It will keep updating, use up the battery, and the data too.
      Try this.
      ‘Settings’
      ‘Apps’
      ‘Manage Apps’
Click on Whatsapp, and select ‘Uninstall’.
It usually only takes a few seconds. I removed it from my phone for a similar reason.

If you want to buy a cheap phone, you can get a SIM-only rolling contract with EE. The people in the EE shop can arrange to keep your old number. They did it instantly when I changed my phone.
My current contract costs £19 a month. I got a new Oppo smartphone, unlimited texts and phone minutes, but only 1 GB of data. It’s actually cheaper then the SIM only deals. That suits me, and it’s a reasonable price.

      Best wishes, Pete.

  2. At least you can call someone to get it repaired 🙂 Mind you printers are the original disposable item, almost always cheaper to replace then repair. Did I mention that my LaserJet 2015 is still going strong after 20 years….fate is there to be tempted 🙂

    1. I think the lockdown disaster for retail is making shops more aware of the need to give better service. Or the shops will all close, and Amazon will rule the world. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Phone back (with contacts intact), negative Covid test, feeling a bit better after the flu – things are looking up. Sorry about your printer but there’s always got to be something or we’d become too complacent!

    1. Complacent is one thing I have never been. I am usually expecting something not to work every time I wake up! 🙂
(Hope things are going okay for you this week. It’s been on my mind. x)
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Can’t fault the shop guys, FR. He could have just given me the phone back and served the next person. But he sat there with me for amost 40 minutes, until it was sorted properly. I will go back to them, just because of that. I left the staff great feedback on the EE Twitter account.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. They let me back in, even before I got the phone back! They must have missed me! I will carry on with the usual retweets for now, but give less and less time to it each day.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  4. Good news about the mobile, Pete. I’m having a nightmare with PayPal because I can’t log in to one of my accounts; the new 2-factor authentication means that they want to send a verification code to my mobile, but they just don’t don’t seem to comprehend that not everywhere gets a good mobile signal! I was told that a ‘supervisor’ would be ringing me this afternoon, but it’s been 4 hours and I’m still waiting……… :p Cheers, Jon.

    1. I have that ‘double-authentication’ stuff with WordPress. They have to send a code if I want to change any settings. I just got rid of it on my phone today, but I think I also have it on my Paypal account.
      Good Luck.
      Best wishes, Pete.
