I enjoy the way names come back around. Here Violet seems to be accompanied by Winifred, Eleanor, Grace and other “old fashioned” names. Beats all those “J” names that were so popular when I was teaching. I had to have Jessica A and Jessica T to keep girls apart.
My wife’s name is Julie She went to school with numerous Julies, and when I met her, two of her best friends were also called Julie. The other best friend was called Julia. It was very confusing. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
So if one’s name is violet can one simply use a line drawn with a violet crayon or ink to sign one’s name? Good choice. Mum would be proud. Warmest regards, Theo
I love finding wild violets in the woods. One of my favourite flowers. I didn’t realise it was making a comeback as a name – I don’t know anyone called Violet.
My cousin’s daughter named her baby Violet, after my mum. Then we found out there were quite a few popping up; both in Norfolk, and Essex too.
Best wishes, Pete.
Oh, beautiful, Pete. My mother loved African Violets so your post reminds me of her today. Her name wasn’t Violet though like your mother’s. Her name was Odell. I doubt there is any flower named that.
Today is election day here in the US so in the hope Trump is defeated, my favorite V is for Victory.
Wonderful post, especially the last sentence. Of course that is pretty much the best reason of all time😊
Sad to see this series is almost at it’s end. I really enjoyed reading it! Maybe you should make a list about the alphabet of things you don’t like as well. Just an idea!😅😅😀😀😀
I used to have quite a collection of African violets once. And I love the colour. Do you remember the Parma Violet sweets in a roll? I hated those. A lovely name though and typical of the time. My mother was Iris another lovely flower name.
I did eat Parma Violets as a child, but I think I was attracted by the overwhelming scent of them.
They are still for sale now, which I found remarkable. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete. x
Indeed a pretty name. Michael

You’re welcome, Pete. Didn’t someone in your family name their child after your mum? You were thrilled, if I remember.

That would work, as long as nobody confused it with Purple. Then again, not many people are named Purple…
Best wishes, Pete. 🙂

Perhaps bring it up may stimulate more parents to name a child Purple 🙂

It was the floral scent/taste that I disliked. Same with those tiny floral gums.

(2) I like the flowers, but they always grow smaller. That’s why they’re called shrinking violets.
