Jeans.
Before anyone even comments, I have a feeling this choice is going to be unpopular. Everyone likes Jeans, don’t they? Well not me. Walk along any street, and it won’t be long before you see someone wearing denim jeans. They are almost a uniform, seemingly only matched by the black leggings so popular with young (and older) women these days.
(Yes, they might well feature in ‘L’)
I didn’t even own a pair of denim jeans for most of my life. I eventually bought a pair of Wrangler jeans, to wear on a motorcycle under my waterproofs. Fellow motorcyclists had suggested they gave good protection in the event of an accident. But I never wore them socially, not even for popping to the shops, or meeting a mate for a drink.
I didn’t think they were comfortable. Too hot in the summer, and bunching up between my legs when I sat down. I tried to see if some Levi 501s might be better, but hated the high waist on those. And unlike some people, I don’t look good in jeans. At 5 feet 7 inches, I am not tall, and I don’t have much bum to fill out the back of them either. Besides, they take forever to dry when they are washed, and are a pig to iron. If you don’t iron them, they look as creased as if they were blue tinfoil.
So no jeans for me.
Some men think women look sexy in jeans. I don’t agree. For one thing, not every woman looks like this in them.
But even if they did, I would take a nice dress or skirt every time. I know, I’m old-fashioned. But I’m old, so what do you expect?
And now we have this trend, proving that fools and their money are soon parted.
They sell them for men too.
If I had torn my trousers like that, I would throw them away. Not prance about around town in them, thinking I was cool.
I doubt this will be a well-received post, so do your worst in the comments, jeans fans!
I hate them too, the look and even the touch is fairly revolting to me!

Jeans have their place but ripped they do not…my youngest daughter was a fan and visited my father with us one day wearing said ripped jeans…to say he was appalled was an understatement and he made her take money to buy herself a proper pair no rips he didn’t get the fashion statement at all 🙂 x

I am ok with jeans, and wear them myself, but I can’t stand the men who walk around with their pants down below their rear ends. Yesterday we saw the whole back view as the guy tried very hard to walk with his pants that way clearly restricting his movement.

I haven’t seen that since I moved out of London. That was a look favoured by many young black guys in the borough I lived in.

I’m a jeans person. When I was young teenager my mother refused to buy me jeans saying they were for workmen so I had to save up my paper round money and buy my own. She had this idea that girls should always wear dresses, but they were damned inconvenient for climbing trees 😁 I hate those ripped knee jeans, my granddaughters seem to favour them though. As for buying ripped pantyhose – WHAT???

Somehow, I always picture you in a flowing dress, Jude. I got that wrong. 🙂
You don’t want to pay £146 for ripped Gucci tights? 🙂 🙂 Get some from Primark and rip them yourself. 🙂

Since having limited mobility,I despise jeans now. They are too fiddly and uncomfortable to wear for long periods. Leggings are much easier and comfortable for me.

Wore them all my life until I retired. Good work pants, but if a rip occurred they were fixed right away. And they were always worn pulled up.

I do own a pair of trousers that are not jeans–they go with my jacket for “occasions.” I also own a couple of pair of non-jeans shorts. However, I do prefer to wear jeans with cargo pockets. For eight months of the year, I exclusively wear shorts. For four months I use long jeans when I go out in what we call “the elements.” The only time I seem to mind what men wear on their bottom half, is when the bottom half is not completely covered. for the life of me, I can not see or understand what holds the pants up that are below the bum? I also find “cracks’ somewhat over-exposed. Warmest regards, Theo

when I was a child grandmothers wore navy dresses with snowflake prints! Now they wear jeans – oh, that’s me as well! Actually my grandmother had progressed to wearing ‘slacks’ by the time I was a teenager, my mother wore slacks, but certainly never jeans, nor my father. In summer I think we ladies are lucky because skirts are cooler than shorts and how anyone could wear jeans on a hot day I can’t imagine.

I am in shorts from mid-March until late October. After that, sensible dog-walking attire takes priority.
Thanks, Janet.

I wear whatever come out of the second hand shop 🙂 Currently a pair of chinos and a couple of pairs of cargo pants. Once there are more holes that than those required they turn into rags and then firelighters.
I do have some jeans, mostly for winter as I’m more of a linen trousers guy in the summer if we are heading out (once or twice a year) 🙂

I don’t wear jeans very often either, Pete. I prefer shorts and T-shirts or dresses during our very hot summer and casual trousers during our winter. I don’t find them comfortable.

Hooray! I wear shorts whenever possible, and smart trousers for trips out. Joggers or waterproofs for dog walking, as wet denim is the last thing you need when on a long walk. 🙂

(1) I just came here for the sexy picture of bonnie Jean in her tight denims. Makes me want to sing….
“Jean, Jean, you’re young and alive
Come out of your half-dreamed dream
And run, if you will, to the top of the hill
Open your arms, bonnie Jean!”
(2) Although Las Vegas is becoming Californicated by sissy prissy soy boys, us true dyed-in-the-wool cowboys wouldn’t be caught dead wearing anything but a rugged pair of jeans!
(3) I wear my jeans until they become frayed and ragged, and it doesn’t cost me a penny. Of course, I do a lot of rock scrambling and hiking among the prickly pears…
(4) What else should a maniac driver wear to the Jean Dry Lake Bed? Eat my dust!

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with jeans since my teens. Even when I was skinny, I had a hard time finding jeans that fit comfortably due to an onset of curves when I hit puberty. Anything that fit my legs, wound up having a waist that was too big. I recently discovered a line of jeans from Mavi though, that are the closest thing you can get to wearing sweatpants. At $70+ they’re a bit pricey, but I have two pairs, one faded blue, one dark blue, that are more than enough for my wardrobe.

I was raised with jeans. My dad was a cowboy/rancher and all he wore were jeans. They were perfect for his lifestyle. He had a good pair for wearing to church on Sunday. They were never ironed! (and mom ironed just about everything). So to me, they are part of life. Not keen on the ripped jeans but every generation wears something to annoy their parents. It will pass.

I don’t like them either, although I did wear those flared hipster jeans for a time in the late 1990s/2000s. They are not as comfortable as trousers ( of which I currently have only one pair of loose 1930s style navy ones).
I only wear leggings under tunic dresses for those days I’m at home doing art and housework with maybe a local shopping errand. My best clothes are my 1930s style, so no jeans or leggings there!
I’d love a return of smart dressing like the 1930s- how great men looked back then!
