Peanut Butter.
It might sound strange that I don’t like peanut butter. I like peanuts, plain or salted. I like Satay sauce on Asian food, and that’s made from peanuts.
But peanut butter gives me the shivers, smooth or crunchy.
The first time I ever saw it as a child, it was always the Sun Pat brand.
That is still sold, but supermarkets also sell their own brands. Then there are the ‘Organic’ or ‘Luxury’ versions sold by various companies.
It’s the texture, as far as I am concerned. It has a cloying feel to it, and a tendency to stick to the roof of your mouth. The crunchy variety has bits that can get between your teeth, and the taste is simply too overwhelmingly ‘Peanutty’. And it smells funny too.
I know millions of people love it, including most of America, which is famous for its peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
But I don’t like it.
Lets say, i miss it. You will not believe, but here you can buy peanut butter only in the bigger shops, or online. But i love it, because its so far away from all the other traditional things we have. Michael

I love almond butter, but I am sure you would find it just as distasteful. One of the fun icebreakers I used to try on my college freshman was a discussion of the proper way to cut a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, corner to corner or edge to edge, crust or no crust. I laughed at how seriously they all took it and they had very definite ideas about the right way to have that traditional treat.

I don’t eat PB&J sandwiches, but I always use bread that isn’t sliced beforehand for sandwiches I do eat, and cut it with a bread knife. Then I cut the sandwich diagonally, corner to corner. The best way to eat it! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Ha. You would have had a great time with my students. I didn’t even ask them if they used sliced bread.

I used to be the same but I’m a recent convert after we made our own using a hand cranked oil press. Add peanuts, turn handle, out comes peanut butter 🙂

I doubt I will ever convert to that texture, Eduardo.

Well, how about that? You must be in the minority in that regard, just as I am with other foods. I probably have had something with peanut butter on it each day for the last twenty years. I never get tired of it. I stay away from it now because I’m watching my weight, but peanut butter and ice cream are a match made in heaven.

I think I am in a minority, Pete. Especially where Americans are concerned.

I actually like peanut butter but it has to be the crunchy style and preferably the organic ones with other nuts as well. When my kids were young I used to make peanut butter biscuits weekly and they went down a treat. I think the secret is in avoiding those that are too sweet.

P is where the oil should have come into play, not the lowly peanut. Warmest regards, Theo

The lowly peanut is fine. It’s making into ‘butter’ that is beyond the pale!

I love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and peanut butter ice cream (the peanut butter is usually swirled or chunked into the ice cream) is one of my favorite flavors. I guess I’m a fan of peanut butter in all its forms, including a PB&J sandwich. As for peanut butter out of a jar, I prefer chunky (I’m sure you think that’s nuts).

Pete, there are three sandwiches that very child growing up in America has as part of their daily life:
1-grilled cheese, always American slices on white bread. maybe cheddar if the family is rich!
2-bologna…always with mayonnaise and white bread
3-peanut butter and jelly. the world’s best!

I almost used Mayonnaise for ‘M’, as I hate the taste of that too. 🙂
You can keep your PB & J sandwiches, John. Enjoy them with my blessing, as long as I never have to eat one! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

If you think peanut butter is sticky you should try tahini. It has the consistency of treacle and the taste of mashed-up cardboard

I’m don’t mind peanut butter but I rarely eat it on toast. My huband loves it, and when I was introducing my son as a toddler to solids, many years ago, peanut butter and honey on toast was the only thing he’d eat, for a while.
