I haven’t had a chance to read any posts today, or to write any for my own blog. Apologies to all concerned.
I have been consumed with one of the most unpleasant aspects of the Christmas season, namely a ‘deep clean’ of the kitchen. I had to report for ‘Domestic Duties’ as my Call-Up papers had been served.
I was assured it had to be done, and as Julie was helping her daughter move house today, I thought I had better be the one to do it. I tried to give Ollie the job, but he was unable to work the spray pumps on the various cleaning fluids using his paws.
As we are eating out on the 25th, and have no visitors at all due to Covid-19, I did wonder what the fuss was all about. But it came under the heading of being ‘Completely ready for Christmas’. Apparently.
After crawling around cleaning skirting boards and doing the floors by hand, I now feel as if I have been run over by a small truck.
Hopefully, normal blog service will be resumed tomorrow.
Providing I am able to get out of bed that is.
I feel your pain, Pete.

And I didn’t even get around to cleaning the oven yet!

Although a deep clean of the kitchen may be unpleasant, it is pleasant to be able to make daily use of a clean kitchen!☺️

That’s true. I just wish someone else had cleaned it. 🙂

I can relate, it isn’t a fun task, so it is essential to enjoy the result!

Haha, I’m so glad that “Siri” reminds Klausbernd to deep “clean my hub and oven” once every week. Automatic correction wanted to make “clean my husband” out this. 🙂
By now it’s history, you can be proud of yourself and best of all, it’s done! 🙂
Warm greetings to you all from the sunny coast (for a change), including a big pat for Ollie,
Dina & Co Xx

Thanks, Dina. I didn’t manage the oven, I’m afraid. I think I will get a company in to clean that. 🙂
Love from Beetley, Pete and Ollie. X

The one good thing about getting down on the floor is that once you are down there you might as well tidy up anything in sight. My husband went down looking for the little ball he uses to exercise his foot and found my missing sock after I asked him to look around under our bed.

My bed base touches the floor, so luckily nothing gets lost underneath it. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

On the other hand you never have to find missing library books as we do. When the librarian tells us a book is overdue we always turn to each other and ask “did you look under the bed?”

I still have library books from the 1960s. I ‘forgot’ to return them, then I moved house. 🙂

I hope they haven’t hired a collection agency to hunt you down. They did that in our old town!

Pete, when you are done there, mind making a trip here to help me clean?

I am seriously considering paying someone to do it next time, Lara. 🙂
Something else I am getting too old for!

I always avoid gender generalisations when it comes to housework, but cleaning is not an activity I enjoy; it’s important to keep food preparation areas clean of course, though, so I hope the bullet didn’t cause your teeth any problems when you bit it 😉 Cheers, Jon.

Skirting boards? Just put the hoover’s crevice attachment on and then you won’t have to get down on your knees!

I was already down there to do the floor, so it didn’t matter. 🙂

Sigh – I get asked when spring or fall cleaning is going to be done even if there is a blizzard that day and I don’t feel up to taking down, washing all the curtains, hanging them out to be ‘sunshine fresh’ and wiping dust and bugs out of the windows – – fortunately for me, whether due to COVID OR the fact I have ‘skirted’ doing full spring/fall cleaning for a few years and no one wants to visit…..I’m now relieved of such duties – LOL
Rest up – the kitchen is ready and if you moan/whine enough, maybe you’ll get enough sympathy to ‘rest/heal up’ so you’ll be ready for ‘company’ and not grumpy – even if no company is coming – – some traditions just survive changing realities – – take advantage of the ones that work for ya – – 😀

Thanks, Tamrah Jo. I have learned over the decades that some things have to be done, even when they don’t need to be done. 🙂

(1) “I had to report for ‘Domestic Duties’ as my Call-Up papers had been served.” Next time, don’t let anyone make a mess out of the mess hall… Or else claim you’re unfit for duty…
(2) Ollie “was unable to work the spray pumps on the various cleaning fluids using his paws.” I think he’d just rather you do it.
(3) Bad citation: “After crawling around on my hands beneath a broad’s skirt, I now feel as if I have been trampled by spike heels.”

Ha ha – it’s on my list of must-dos before Christmas and the living room has to be done before the tree goes up. I’m sitting upstairs at my desk and can hear much crashing and banging from downstairs so I think Jon’s decided to tackle the living room in preference to the kitchen 🙂

The living room was done, and the tree is up. That was two days ago. And I had to clear leaves to stop them constantly being trodden in. They seem to super-glue themselves to everything! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Sometimes life can get very hard but having to clean the kitchen is, well, a step too far. I have such enormous sympathy for you Pete and I trust you will survive this vast ordeal however, I doubt you’ll ever be the same man. Stay strong my friend and try to rest.

In my defence, I have to state it was a ‘big clean’, Ro. Not a ‘wipe over’. 🙂

You have just had your kitchen revamped haven’t you? It must be clean enough to eat from the floor now. You have a hard taskmaster 😂

Yes, it was repainted, and new flooring laid. But that was a while back, and I have only been rubbing it over with a Flash Speed Mop since. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete. x

Julie would have helped by doing the cupboards, but the move came through at short notice, and she had to go over to look after the baby while they moved house. 🙂
