December the 21st is the shortest day in Britain.
It will be dark by 3:30 in the afternoon, after it never really got that bright to start with. I have had the lights on in the house since I got up at 8 am, and the SAD lamp is cranked up to full power.
The Beetley weather is marking the occasion with torrential rain that started during the night, and is set to last all day.
Oh joy!
Our torrential rain comes Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, along with high winds. Oh joy, indeed. The good news is we’re now gaining more daylight every day. Best to you, Pete.

Sorry to hear that, Jennie. We are supposed to have a cold and clear day on the 25th. Fingers crossed for that. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

It only gets better from here though, a couple of minutes of extra light every day and before you know it it will be spring 🙂

Although the airport recorded a trace amount of precipitation recently, breaking a 240-day dry streak here in Las Vegas, I’m still in the dark as to what rain looks like. And if I don’t get out of the house soon, I’ll be in the dark as to what sunlight looks like. I haven’t been outside in a week.

But busy writers only ever see daylight through the cracks in venetian blinds, so I believe. 🙂

The rain here stopped long enough for me to get the dogs out to meet their friend, Harper, so we’re tucked up now for the shortest day.
l ook on the bright side. Tomorrow will be a smidgeon brighter.

Poor you! 😉 If it’s any consolation [Schadenfreude, maybe? 😉 ] it’s also raining here, a hundred odd miles north of you, and set to last the rest of the day. At least my frustration at not being able to have a walk in the fresh air is tempered by the necessity to give my foot another day or so before venturing out for more than the odd hundred metres [sorry 😉 ], but it definitely feels like it is on the mend: slightly less swollen and tender, so I should be back to my normal quite soon. Cheers, Jon.

Glad to hear your gout is subsiding, Jon. No need to get your feet wet today.
I have no choice, because of my dog. 🙂

Thanks Pete 😀 I do have a pretty new pair of waterproof walking shoes, but they don’t ‘give’ much, yet anyway, so I don’t think I’d be able to get the right one on until the swelling has subsided some more, and I’m not about to try! 😉 I’m sure Ollie appreciates you, whatever the weather.
