Waking Up To Snow

Late last night, it was still feeling very cold despite leaving the heating on until almost bedtime. I thought about the old and rather silly saying popular in England. “Too cold for snow”.

Sure enough, I woke up to see around three inches of snow settled on the back lawn, and needed no further prompting to go straight back to bed until 9:30.

The falling flakes have now turned to hard sleet. Driven by gusty winds, it is cracking against the windows, and beginning to melt the snow.

Other than taking Ollie for a walk later, I won’t be going anywhere today.

  1. Snow is just a distant memory as is sleet which is awful especially if you are outside in it…I do love looking at people’s snowy images though especially when it is freshly laid and the imprints are from birds…Stay warm, Pete x

  2. Its -11c outside and snowing this morning, so I have to wonder how cold too cold is 🙂 -20c tonight so maybe it will stop! At least the snowplough is making its daily round and marking the road.

    1. Ollie doesn’t seem to bother about any weather, Arlene. As for me, rain is only preferable because I can drive to the shops. Driving around here in snow is just too dangerous.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  3. I’ve never seen snow before, but after visiting my parents on the other side of this country in Winter, I think I’d want to see it about once. Few articles of clothing are warm enough to keep me standing still outside

    1. I have no idea where he came from. It started as me giving him what I thought was good advice, and then he became unreasonably rude. If he appears again, I will Spam him.
Fortunately, that kine of thing has been very rare on my blog.
      Best wishes, Pete.

            1. You have to work hard at following other blogs. Engage with your own followers. reply to comments, comment on other blogger’s posts, and realise it takes time to become part of a blogging group or community. Years, in fact. I have been blogging for over 8 years now.

  4. Living on the south coast, settled snow is such a rarity that it can be greeted with childlike enthusiasm. But today looks like solid rain and thus coffee and books are calling. Dog walks shall be less ambitious than earlier planned here, too.

  5. Snow…what would that be like? Over here, we had dense fog which lasted at 2.30 pm, so only 2 hours of sunshine were left. The visibility was only 5 metres. It was not as cold as yesterday, but we all have been feeling claustrophobic lately with dense fog lasting long after the noon. Today was worst with tempers running high and people itching to get out of the home… 🤣

    1. In the rural areas, snow looks lovely, but it paralyzes travel. The roads become dangerous, and trains get cancelled. It isn’t good for normal everyday life, Shaily. Good for children to play in though. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  6. It was strange when we went out the other day Pete – when we left Scunthorpe it was just rain. When we got to Laughton forest there was a line beyond which there was snow! The lune was distinct. One side rain, the other side snow. It looked like it had been snowing forxquite a while beyond that line. I throughly enjoyed it, as snow is something I can JUST see, though very blurred and indistinct. I loved it lol xx

      1. Oh I know. It isn’t always nice. Not when you are cut off even in the town, as we can be on our road on a hill and that gets no sun at all. It isvtreacherous at times. It reminds me of our days in Derbyshire when hubby had to drive overbthosevreal high roads to get to and from work. He had to go to Last of the Summer Wine country, but itvwas midcwinter and horrible! Deet of snow! He remarked on that as we were going through the forest, saying he was glad hecdidn’t have to do that any more. Xx
