I would like to wish a Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone who celebrates it.
This one day celebration of love and affection has been the victim of excessive commercialisation for decades, but the true spirit of it remains something that endures.
However, the online outpourings of love messages, Gifs, and even proposals of marriage on social media can be very distressing for people who are without a partner or loved one in life. And in a year where the pandemic has taken so many lives, this day will be a reminder of loved ones lost like never before.
So I am asking us all to remember the bereaved, the lonely, and the unloved on this day. Perhaps send them a message to let them know they are not forgotten.
Sorry, Pete ! I lost the date again, but your advice is very good, and i can realize these days too. Best wishes, Michael

This year more than ever, we need to appreciate all of our friends, family, loved ones and certainly pay homage to those we lost in this horrible pandemic…and remember that if we all respect each other and support each other we can overcome obstacles together….

Thanks, Kim. I have had a few lonely Valentine’s Days, and that was long before the ‘avalanche’ of social media.
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s so commercialized now that we don’t bother with it.

That’s understandable, David. I had an email offering me ‘Special Valentine’s Day Deals’ on laptops and PCs today. Hardly a romantic product, I would suggest. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

This was never a day that we celebrated as a couple. It’s the other 364 days that make up the meaning of a relationship in my mind. I do feel for the millions of people affected by the loss of life in the pandemic and how the onslaught of hearts and flowers might affect them today.

Thanks, Maggie. We did give each other cards today, but that’s all.

The bereaved, the lonely, and the unloved need messages on other days too, but you are right they especially need them on days of note. Warmest regards, Theo

Thanks, Theo. I agree. But occasions like today, and Chrstmas, are somehow more poignant.
Best wishes, Pete.

That’s a beautiful sentiment, Pete. There’s so many people out there on their own, experiencing very though times indeed. And totally agree with the unnecessary commercialism.
It beats me why we have to copy Thanksgiving and Black Fridays and more.
Hope you are all fine, enjoying the beautiful winter, Ollie included.
Best wishes,

Not to mention those whose relationship has fallen apart during lockdown. We have never really bothered about valentines day, and it seems this year the commercialism is far less with most retailers and hospitality closed.

The commercialism seems to have transferred to being bombarded by ‘online offers’, and Tesco was packed with all the usual stuff too. We exchange cards, but that’s it for us two.
Best wishes, Pete. x

That’s a lovely thought, Pete: the same goes for all the other marketing opportunities throughout the year. I won’t repeat what I said on Nicholas’s post, but I’m just glad I don’t have to go through the ritual of pretending to be thrilled at presenting a partner with card, flowers, or other tokens of love on this ‘special’ day 😉 Cheers, Jon.

We do exchange cards, but no presents or flowers. Too much commercialism has worn me down. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

And Christmas too and come to that any public holiday, because of loneliness. This is made worse by greetings card companies and shops greedy for profit.

I left a similar message last year regarding Christmas celebrations too, Stevie.
