Despite the pandemic, or maybe because of it, my blog has never been busier, or more widely read. Most of my readers are still from America, followed by Britain, then India. But other countries seem to be catching on fast, and recent views include Ghana, Finland, Indonesia, Guadaloupe, and Bangladesh.
I have now published 3,922 posts, and had 466,000 views of my blog, from 148,000 visitors.
Jennie, you know who you are, and you are currently number one in comments on my blog. Thank you.
Daily views in excess of 600 are no longer unusual. And even one post can generate well over 350 views, for which I thank all my followers and readers.
Follower numbers, including social media and email only, now total 7,485.
More than I ever thought possible, even allowing for the fact that some 80% of those never actually ‘follow’.
Thanks anyway, to those of you who really do follow this blog.
It is my habit to keep plugging away at my favourite hobby. I try to write stuff you might want to read, and so far I seem to be doing okay.
So it is a big “Thank You” to everyone.
You make my blogging enjoyable, worthwhile, and rewarding.
Best wishes, Pete.
Wow, congratulations Pete… Happy For you..
Would you please checkout my blog too…

How do you get readers from other countries?
LikeLiked by 1 person
They just appeared! Many are from India, Australia, Canada, and other countries where English is widely spoken, like Pakistan and Bangladesh. Almost 80% of my regular readers are from the USA and Britain though. Some non-English speakers are trying to learn how to improve their English, but most just like to read blog posts without the need for translation.
I do have the ‘translation widget’ available on every blog post, but it is widely known that it is far from perfect.
There is no actual ‘way’ of getting readers from other countries. They just have to like what you write about, or perhaps find your blog from comments you leave on other blogs. It’s a very long process to become part of a worldwide community.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thank you. Im just beginning. And my blog is pretty specific to one cause…plus im a granny writer…..so there is that! But I will look for the
” widget”. Thx for sharing your knowledge!

I must be a grandpa writer, as I am almost 69, and have two grandchildren. 🙂
Do you tag your posts correctly, Samantha? Readers search for tags and categories to find subjects they are interested in. This shows you how to add the translation widget.

I have lots of advice for new bloggers, like this post.

I’ve been decreasing my tags because they started appearing at the beginning of my posts. I need to fix that
LikeLiked by 1 person
You rarely need more than five tags. More than that, and the extra ones often don’t appear in The Reader when someone views your blog that way.
LikeLike
I had a quick look at your blog, and your tags and categories seem fine. But as you say, you are a very specific blogger. Try to find other blogs around the world that are writing about the same things as you. You can search subjects in The Reader. Follow those blogs, comment on their posts, and eventually you will attract readers interested in those same things.

Do you know why my tags are at the beginning of my posts now? Im thinking it’s the theme I chose….

Your tags appear twice. At the start of your post, and also above the comments section. That is almost certainly because of your chosen theme.

Thank you. I do have a lot of time on my hands. Numbers of posts matter less than the quality of those posts of course. I am sure your 77 are all very good.

If you are doing what you love, then the views don’t matter. I carried on with 20 views a day for over a year. Then something clicked. You will always have me, WN. Then again, I am old, so ‘always’ is relative, Such a shame we have such a huge age difference. I sometimes think that fate had destined us to be entwined. Well fate, or Al Bowlly. 🙂 🙂
Best wishes in friendship. Pete.

Dear Pete,
Just a comment on your header photo. It reminds me of the painter Constable’s works. Now when all our museums are closed, and travels are something we did in the past, my fantasy works by watching photos.
Greetings, Maria

Thanks for noticing the photo, Maria. It is actually an HTC phone screensaver picture, that I ‘borrowed’ from my old phone in 2012. It does look like the riverside around Beetley though, except for the hills in the distance. We have no hills like those in Norfolk. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks, Shammi. I am trying to show how it takes time, but you can get there. When I started in 2012, I had few followers, and most of those were friends or family. I used to get 20 views on the best days, and it would have been easy to give up. But I kept going, interacted with fellow bloggers, and became part of a great community. You can do that too.
Best wishes, Pete.

I have a question: If I check back multiple times to see if you’ve read a comment I’ve posted, is that counted as so many visits?

I honestly have no idea, David. Good point though.

I’ve always enjoyed seeing from which countries people have visited. Historically UK, USA and India have been my most too. It’s interesting to think about content, populations and why some countries provide more views than others.
Well done and keep enjoying it!

Thanks, Paul. Countries with English as a first language (or a widely used second language) will always feature on English-speaker’s blogs. But it is the almost forgotten small countries that provide the excitement when they turn up in the Stats.
