Can a companion be a real friend?
Can you truly love a friend?
Is friendship more than companionship?
Is love no more than a form of friendship?
1) Probably not.
2) Yes.
3) Definitely.
4) I think so.

Too many questions, no answers. My best friend is one person I love more than myself.

I’d love to have a friendly companion. My guess is that such a companion wags its tail at mealtime, and barks when strangers come to the door.

I was thinking more of a regular person who goes for tea with you or plays golf. But I prefer your canine reference.

I have always had a hard time with friends. I truly love them, but they don’t. And then I keep thinking whether they were really friends or just companions. It’s just so difficult.

The real friends stick around when times are tough. And even when you lose touch, they are still true friends.

Too many themes and variations and exceptions to your rule. 😉

Not so much rules, as questions. But maybe that’s why I have never found the real answers, Cindy?

We started as friends then morphed into lovers but have always built on a bedrock of friendship.

There are different kinds of love, not all of them are compatible with companionship and not all of them are compatible with friendship, either.

It is actually all in the mind/heart of the person one asks. Warmest regards, Theo

Thanks, Theo. Yes, that’s the point I suppose. We all see such things differently.

I don’t think a companion can be a real friend. I don’t think you can truly love a friend, more like than love? Friendship is definitely more than companionship. Love is a bit more intense than friendship, I think.

Thanks for your take on this one, Stevie.

Hi Pete, I think that love becomes a friendship over time, but it doesn’t start off as a friendship. It’s much more intense in my experience.

Friendship is a human need for companionship and security.
Love is the same but chemistry is in the mix.
(How’s that for cold hearted analysis?! 🧐🤪

I’m going to have to go Yes, Yes, Yes, and Definitely. You need to be friends with your partner to get pleasure from being with them even when it’s a bra fitting. Trying to look relaxed in a sea of ladies ‘Thingies’until she returns what feels like hours later worried about how you’re feeling. Friendship and love (and resilience) make for a happy marriage.
Hugs

Thanks for adding your ‘votes’, David. I have also spent some time in the London shop ‘Rigby and Peller’, waiting whilst surrounded by ladies discussing bra cup sizes and underwiring. 🙂
