Yes, I have had family experience of a ‘controlling’ relationship, and seen that in action. But once he physically attacked her violently, she left the same day.
Best wishes, Pete.
Very true. It took her over a year to get housed by a Housing Trust, and she had to be allocated a social worker and counsellor before that happened. It is never made easy for them, despite all the publicity and ‘Special Days’.
There have been reports here that domestic violence has increased by more than 50% since the lockdowns. I came across it a lot in my job of course.
Best wishes, Pete.
Behind a closed door, curtains drawn, Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs dreads the sound of ruby slippers being clicked without purpose by an annoying girl from Kansas.
Brief but very powerful, Pete, and particularly relevant with the 8th of March around the corner. Unfortunately, I think many people will identify with it. Thanks for sharing it.
So sad!

My first memory of someone in this situation was Tina Turner when she left Ike. She had 67 cents to her name. That was all. Best to you, Pete.

Ah, Pete, leaving is not as easy as people might assume. Mental abuse goes on too and it’s a lot more complicated than simply walking out that door.

She was lucky. Many women haven’t got anywhere to go.

As you say, sad but true. I have known a friend in that situation but she could never leave.
I heard she did eventually, after 25 years,

When women had less options in life, it was very common. But even now they have more, so many still stick around.

Now and then I pay close attention to someone I see in a market(back before the pandemic) and can see the bruises she is trying to hide.

Did you have to report when you picked up a victim in your ambulance?

Not back then. Recently, the law has changed, and it would be compulsory. Even if the woman didn’t want to press charges.

Here the woman doesn’t have to press charges any more either.

Sad that a woman would feel her only option is to tolerate the brute. I’d rather be homeless.

So many do stay though. And I am speaking from experience of dealing with them.

I figured as much. I didn’t think you were doing a role reversal and your first or second wife cringed when they heard you open the door!
