She was a regular patient in my EMT days. Whenever we went there, she always showed us the photo. Forty years of grief, that blighted her life.
Best wishes, Pete.
So many of them who left behind their lives to fight a war that was not of their making. Too many Frodo Baggins out there, buried under the unknown turf.
Her eyes were wed. (Married to her nose.)
A 1930s wetting, from the styles. (That’s the nature of wetsuits, bathing suits, and birthday suits.)
He is buried in Belgium, never came home. (Those Belgian girls are really hot.)
Once she knew Joy, and love. (Joy doesn’t have a joystick, but at least she’s available.)
This is a memory from my ambulance days, Sue. Every time we went to her house, she went through the same ritual. She said he was killed somewhere in the Ardennes, during the winter offensive by the Germans. That seemed unusual, as that fighting mostly involved the Americans. I was never sure whether or not she was confused by grief.
Best wishes, Pete.
A very sad remembrance, indeed! Michael

The lady always showed us that photo. She knew he was in a war cemetery, but had never visited the grave.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes, this was around 1982, so almost 40 years on her own, mourning his loss.
