(1) If the parrot will simply pull on the budgie cord, the cage door will open.
(2) Better to hang the millet than to hang a miller.
(3) Nicolas Cage has been known to parrot the words and behavior of Elvis Presley.
My mum always told me that local birds would kill it, if I ever let it fly free. Not sure about that, but food might have been an issue, in Central London. He lived for another three years, before we found him dead at the bottom of his cage one morning.
Best wishes, Pete.
We took our three children to Paris once, that’s another story, but they were totally amazed by some of the shops and street sellers. In a pet shop we saw a creepy sight, an open tray full of budgies. They didn’t fly away because they all had their wings clipped. The memory still makes me shudder.
My mum told me that if I set it free, the other birds would kill it. I was never sure if she was telling the truth about that, Beth.
Best wishes, Pete.
You’ve reminded me of our budgies. We had several budgies when I was younger. The only pets my father was ever keen on. And he’d let them free around the house. Thanks, Pete.
Thanks, Olga. Those tiny shops that sell caged birds along La Rambla used to break my heart. Standing outside at night, I could hear them tweeting inside the locked shutters.
Best wishes, Pete.
My late sister let her parakeets fly around the house. They ate and got their water in the cage.

Well that was better than them being caged all the time Well done to your sister.

I really like your “short thoughts”-this one especially. I feel the same way about caged anything. I can not even bear zoos.

Glad to hear you like the Short Thoughts, Michele. Birds that can fly free in the air should never have to live in cages.
Best wishes, Pete.

Not many left here now. Most pets have to be bought online these days.

Can budgies survive if freed, Pete, I know some domesticated birds can’t?

There are wild parakeets in Regent’s Park in London, Robbie. Not sure about budgies though.

Mum always let our budgies fly free when I was a kid. They used to scare her mother-in-law when she came round. Perhaps that’s why she did it, lol.

My wife is terrified of birds flying in the house. I hate to see any bird in a cage though.
Best wishes, Pete.

Me too. These days the noise they make would grate a bit, but I’d let them fly freely if I had one.
