I was only 7, and lived in a flat in London. There were no chores to do, Susanne. My mum would have said ‘read a book’. I had probably read every book I owned by then. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
Thanks, Carolyn. It was a bad winter, or I would have been out playing in the street. There wasn’t much on TV during the day in 1959, and as my dad was asleep, (after a lunchtime session in the pub) I wouldn’t have been allowed to watch it anyway. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
Ah, the non-joys of having to be quiet for sleeping fathers, who’ve had a few (too many).
Living in Australia as a kid meant it was almost always ok weathewise, to be outside to race around, while male parents slept off their indiscretion with the grog …
Yup. And difficult for a child to appreciate Bertrand Russell’s wisdom about boredom a necessary part of a happy life! I often told my daughters that haha and they scowled but today they accept it!
What’s all this about trees? It was a flat in London, in the winter. I was only 7. The only trees were on the sides of the main road! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
I remember this also for some of the last weeks. Lol Best wishes, Michael

Here’s how the conversation would go in my house. Me: There’s nothing to do! Mom: I’ll give you something to do. Argh! A chore. Always.

Every child always. I admire that you didn’t yell it out the way I am used to; I am s-o-o-o-o bored!

If it hadn’t been winter, Shammi, I would have been out on the streets playing with my friends. But it was bad weather that day.
Best wishes, Pete.
