Ollie’s Eye: An Update

On the 8th, I posted about Ollie being bitten by another dog, and getting a cut under his eye.

Ollie Gets A Nip

This Tuesday, I took Ollie to the Vet about a problem with his ear. I showed the Vet his eye, and he said he would look at that too. With the social distancing still operating, I am not allowed to go in with Ollie, so had to wait in the car.

Ten minutes later, the Vet returned with him, telling me he had a mild infection in his left ear, and he brought out some antibiotics for him to take on a ten-day course. He told me he had looked at the eye, and the antibiotics would take care of any infection. I should not attempt to bathe it or clean it, just let it dry out and scab naturally.

Hopefully, everything should have cleared up by next Friday.

    1. Ollie has only been bitten 3 times in 9 years. (Once quite badly, the end of his tail was bitten off)
On every occasion, it was his fault, for ‘pestering’ a dog that didn’t want his attention. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

        1. I t was just the pointy tip of his curly tail, but that turned out to be serious, as it is part of their spinal column. He had to be admitted for an operation, and it cost us almost £600 in Vet bills.

    1. He has had many ear infections, and gets them checked on a regular basis, chuq. They test the sticky stuff that comes out, so would hopefully know if it as anything sinister.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  1. Ears are such a nuisance – great yours is being watched.
Malamute Molly also had an ear annoyance last week – which cleaning and care fixed quickly, but before it was totally fine, she managed to claw a spot on her check which became raw and she is now having to have meds for that – and sad she can’t go run in the heat with her friends right now.
She’s mending well just like you. Hopefully life will return to normal for both of you soon!

    1. Ollie has had numerous ear infections, something to do with the breed and the unusual shape of the eardrum internally. It is his main reason for any Vet visit, usually 2-3 times a year or more. I hope Molly makes a full recovery soon.
      Best wishes, Pete.
