A New Spam Record

Since I logged on this morning, WordPress has notified me of 1,000 spam comments already today.

They are all from the same company, offering to sell me a drug called Cialis.

This is what the drug is for.

Tadalafil, sold under the brand name Cialis among others, is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and pulmonary arterial hypertension. It is a tablet taken by mouth. Onset is typically within half an hour and the duration is up to 36 hours.

1,000 spam messages, all about the same thing!

They are obviously trying to tell me something…

    1. Thanks for the link. I can already delete all comments immediately by clicking ‘Empty Spam’. The problem is that WP often puts genuine comments in Spam for no reason, and that usually means having to check them.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  1. In all our discussions, let’s nit forget that the enormous amount of spam is NOT a WordPress problem and that, as much of a nuisance as it is, an “overflowing” spam-folder only shows that WP’s spam filter is doing its job properly.

      1. I knew that you knew, Pete, but I wasn’t so sure if everyone else did, because all of us, me included, sometimes made it sound as if was a WordPress fault.

  2. I must admit to not having checked my WordPress.com blog for a long time, so I might have millions of spam messages by now. I don’t seem to get quite so many on WordPress.org, but I’ve had those kinds of messages myself, so I’m sure they aren’t really personal. I’m sure they spam everybody at the same time. It used to be cars for me a while back. I wonder what is the point of sending so many messages to the same account. Perhaps they are testing if there is a number limit to the messages going into Spam and if they surpass it they will appear on the blog itself…
    Keep smiling and erasing!

  3. Ditto between yesterday and today so far I have had 1390 spam and I cannot or won’t check if anyone is caught in that I rescued one reader but how can you check such huge amounts of spam? As Chris said as it seems to be all of us WP must be under SPAM attack bug time x

  4. This reminds me of a time years ago after I got married when I started receiving spam email messages advertising Viagara and other such medication to combat sexual disfunction. My late husband just happened to be suffering from such a condition. Go figure!

  5. I woke up to more than 1,200 such spam messages, all about tadalafil and all from there five “sites”:

    TUsBoonosef
    estualmFaumma
    BaleDioxykeelia
    Psysfultess
    Duaphaperervaks

I added them to my blocked list and that ended that.

  6. Pete, I’ve never gotten an onslaught like that, but I do get many that are very articulate: offering a thank you for my post, telling me its one of the best sites on the web….and invariably it is from a “custom fender repair” car center….dozens of them!

                  1. It works independently of the editor you use. What I noticed, though, a while ago, was that WP had eliminated the search function for the comments in the admin section, a function that I really like and use. A short chat with their support solved the problem, and they sent me a link which I now have bookmarked. In case anybody here needs/wants it:

                    https://yourblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php

Just replace the “yourblog” with the actual name of yours.
Btw, I have put in a link to the admin page in a widget at the bottom of my blog page from the beginning. That works again independent of what WP does.

  7. Not so long ago I had a series of messages threatening to reveal photographs of me engaging in various sexual acts. I just had to pay something like $2000 to prevent it happening. I suppose they thought by setting a low expectation they were bound to hook someone who wasn’t sure. There is a special hell for people who try that sort of thing. As well as the information thieves.

    1. I had something similar years ago on my email account. I quoted the Duke of Wellington back at them.
      “Publish, and be damned!”
‘The coining of this expression is attributed to Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington (1769-1852) who directed it at Harriette Wilson, one of his many mistresses, when she threatened to publish her diary and some of the Duke’s letters.’
      Best wishes, Pete.

        1. It could well be to do with Europe, Pit. I didn’t click on the company link to find out where it is based, but I have had many of those originatiing from Canada in the past.
          Best wishes, Pete.

  8. I’ve had more than 4000 of these in the past 24 hours, Pete – about 600 from 3pm til 10pm yesterday,1168 of them between 10pm last night and 7am this morning, plus well over 2500 from 7am until 10 minutes ago…
I didn’t get any notification from WP yet though.

  9. Yesterday I had 176 spam comments for the same thing – now what are they trying to tell me? I deleted them all, put a filter in to send any comments with that name directly to trash. I woke this morning to 196 spam comments in my trash.

  10. BeetleyPete, I got hit too. Only 642 for me, but the exact same spam you got. I’m on with a Happiness Engineer now, trying to see if there is a way to bomb them all at once. Even with bulk edit it’s going to take forever getting rid of them. UGH!
Spammers need to get a FREAKING LIFE!

      1. Hi, Pete. I think it’s because I have so many, emptying them is not working for me. I’ve now got it set to blast them all at once, but it’s taking forever. I’m also blocking in comments for future. So frustrating!
