I have just had my film review published in the online magazine, Mythaxis.
‘The Eight Hundred’ is a Chinese war film, set during the Japanese invasion of China in 1937.
Here is a link, if you are interested in reading it.
(I watched the film in the original Chinese and Japanese languages, with subtitles. The trailer on the link is dubbed)

You’re such a skilled reviewer 🙂

That’s a very kind thing to say, Alex, and it’s nice to see you here! 🙂
If you get a chance to see this epic old-school war film, make sure to watch the subtitled version, and not the inferior dubbed edit.
Best wishes, Pete.

I have direct knowledge of how good your reviewing skills are 🙂 Yes for sure. Dubbing is always distracting for me

Good one PJ – read your fantastic review on Mythaxis and will definitely spare it some eyeballs 🐾

It’s a full-on old school war film mate. Watch the subtitled version though, much better.
Cheers, Pete.

Pete, I sometimes remember I almost turned down your first story you sent me years ago. Now I totally would have regretted that!!

It was your review that made me buy the DVD! Daniel had already asked me to review it, but I could only find a poor version on You Tube. He lives in Taiwan, and his wife is related to the real Chinese Colonel shown in the film. There is a memorial to the 800 in Shanghai, in the actual building which is preserved as a museum. There is a link at the end of the review blog post.
Best wishes, Pete.

That’s cool! Would love to see it in person but that’s unlikely to happen I think.

I never got to Shanghai, only Beijing and the surrounding area. My friend said I should have stayed longer, and flown down to Shanghai. (He loved it there) But I had to go back to work! 🙂

After reading your excellent review, I watched the trailer. That is one hell of a trailer! It blew me away!

Unfortunately, they used a dubbed trailer. I much preferred the film with subtitles. 🙂
That’s why I bought it on DVD.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks. I had a review of ‘1917’ published there too. At one time, I used to get a lot of reviews and articles published elsewhere, such as these on Curnblog.

Thanks, Stevie. I recommend the subtitles version, not the dubbed one. But if you know anyone who enjoys war films and epics, this is a must-see.
Best wishes, Pete.
