WordPress Unfollowing: A New Glitch

Over the past couple of months, WordPress has been ‘unfollowing’ me from a group of bloggers who have all followed me for some time. This has happened to Beth, Liz Guffreau, and a few others. Today, it happened to Jude, one of the first people to ever follow this blog.

What’s going on, WordPress?

I have also had some of my comments on other blogs ‘Trashed’ by WordPress. Most recently some comments on Stevie Turner’s blog.

I get that uneasy feeling that good old WordPress is up to something behind the scenes. Perhaps another ‘innovation’?

And when they are doing that, it is rarely about anything good.

  1. They are really doing it again?? I had experienced this sometimes over the last year, but now i only have to deal with missing email notifications, if i not visit subscribed blogs during one week of time. I the abbreviation “WP” is missing an “i” and means “Work In Progress”. Lol xx Michael

  4. Sorry to read that, Pete. I consider myself lucky that I have not had any (serious0 problems with WP for a long time. Knocking on wood while writing this! 😀

  5. Same with me, Pete I just keep my own list and keep checking for new posts it saves all the frustration until they sort it out… it was interesting to read the comment that classic editor is staying though…:) x

      1. I do hope so.. Perhaps they realise that many of us will pop their clogs at some point or retire from blogging and as anyone who starts blogging now has to use the new editor it will naturally become obsolete… Fingers crossed.. 😀 x

  7. Same here Pete. A few of my followers say their approved reply’s are not posting, and I have lost followers for no apparent reason. If you research WP a bit, you will find they are of the same views as FB and Instagram, Twitter and the lot, so I am not surprised. I am a paid user of the Premium plan so I expect the thing to work properly. So where do we go from here? Not sure if there is a better format for blogging. I try and use the classic editor, but my Grammarly editing keeps clashing with it and the blocks. Frustrated to say the least.

    1. Unfortunately, WordPress is still the best blogging platform, even with the glitches. They are apparently ‘investigating’ this unfollowing issue, and that has been going on for some time now.

I know this as some of the bloggers in question have commented that this has happened, meaning that they have been forced to refollow kmorrispoet.com.
    I usually post on a daily basis. Therefore, if you don’t receive a post from this blog for 7-10 days, do please feel free to check that you remain subscribed to this site. I value all of my readers and I don’t want to lose subscribers unless they actively choose to unsubscribe from my blog.

  9. This happens to me too, Pete. It’s curious that it only seems to be happening with specific blogs. The sad part is we often don’t notice for a while, and our blogging friends may think we’re ignoring them. There is one blogger I’ve had to follow about six times now. I follow both Liz and Beth, and I don’t believe WordPress has “unfollowed” either of them for me. Very curious how this all works.

  11. 🤔 My educated guess is that it probably has something to do with bloggers on the paid plans.

    From what I have observed is that people on paid WordPress domains tend to experience more technologically-related issues than those who are on the free WordPress subdomains.

  13. I am sorry this has been happening to you, Pete. I hope the issue resolves itself. I must confess that I am still using the Classic Editor because, as a blind user of screen reading software I find the Block Editor unusable. To be fair, WordPress did engage with me on this issue and confirmed there are no plans to remove the Classic Editor, however your post reminded me of my experience as regards feeling unhappy!   15. This unfollowing business has been happening to me since last April. I have submitted help tickets to the “Happiness Engineers” multiple times. They respond each time that it’s a known bug and “the programmers are working on it.” I will keep after them, because I don’t want them to think this bug is acceptable for a paid service. It’s not. In the meantime, I’ve given up on their ever fixing it, and I’m spending two hours every Monday morning tracking the blogs I follow on a spreadsheet and resubscribing to the blogs I’ve been automatically unsubscribed from.

    1. Thanks for that information, Liz. I agree, when we are paying for a service, this failure to rectify bugs is just not on. That’s why I truly suspect they are not trying, because they know why it is happening and want to continue ‘messing around’.

  16. I know what you mean, Pete. I believe I have been disconnected around 10 bloggers so far. I keep checking people, but I know I must be missing a bunch and I can’t figure out who.

    1. Thanks, David. I have never used the WordPress app. I have it on my tablet, but it has so many errors because WordPress does ‘not support’ WordPress on the Amazon Silk browser. I never even bothered with it on my phone, as I only use that for calls and texts.

Suddenly I stopped getting many of the blogs I follow, and now go to the “Reader” button, where they all sit because I do follow them…several suddenly wouldn’t allow me to comment unless I re-entered all of my information again…glitches are a frustrating part of the system to be sure – here’s comes more unwanted and unneeded “improvements!”

  19. Well that’s awful! I can’t believe they’re doing that for something we all pay for! I haven’t noticed if this has been happening with me. I’ve been trying to invite a lot of friends lately — something I should’ve done much sooner — because I’m leaving Facebook. I will have to monitor things more closely. There are definitely features about WordPress that I don’t care for. Sorry this is happening to you, Pete. 😦

    1. Thanks, Frank. Some of my followers have been ‘unfollowed’ up to six times. I really appreciate them bothering to re-follow every time that happened. And others have had to sort through their Trash folders to find my comments too.

  22. Same here, found some unfollowed, and some I follow unfollowed. I think they are getting too large and complicated. It was a lot more enjoyable to blog, before it became a web page building program.

    I think, if they would concentrate as much on the user experience, as they do putting out warnings and adding fluff, it would be a lot nicer. I’ve always tried to live by the “Less is more” way of thinking.

    1. Considering many of us pay them for an upgraded service, I don’t think that’s acceptable. I tagged this post in the hope they might read it. I can’t be bothered to waste my weekend by contacting the (Un) Happiness Engineers.
