If you thought the Block Editor was enough to worry about, think again.
Looks like they have a new version about to be foisted upon us that makes Mr Blocky look easy.
Read this post from Ron, in Alabama.
Dear WordPress. Please stop mucking around with a great product!
Just got an email with from WP about that Full Site Editing, and it has “Why we’re excited (and you should be too!)” as the headline. I certainly think we ARE excited about it, but maybe not exactly the way WP thinks! 😀

Dead right, Pit. I haven’t had an email yet, and I don’t want one! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

So far, if I understand that email correctly, it can only be used for NEW blogs, and with a few themes only.

I have a knot in my stomach… If classic goes away, I might, too.

I can just about manage the original Block Editor if they leave that as an option.
Best wishes, Pete.

Is that what they – in a recent email I got – call “full site editing”? I haven’t seen any changes yet in the eidting of may blogs and will have to see what will come.

Yes, Pit. Ful Site Editing is the ‘selling point’.
However, it doesn’t work with every current theme.
Best wishes, Pete.

From what I read it is still a beta edition and can only be download for a new blog, but not (yet) used for existing blocks.
So, for the time being I can be relaxed and leave my fire-spitting to later. 😀 [gallows humour] 😀

New horrors? Not really with me, since i am selfhosted. 😉 Or i will automate all. Lol xx Michael

Good luck with that, if WP keeps on playing games.

Thanks, Pete! Lol – I will try. Eventually all is a trial in the virtual world, of bits and bytes. xx Michael

It was only thanks to the kindness of a fellow blogger who told me that I mis-published that I realized the error of my publishing ways. I’m not quite sure I’m ready for more complexity…

I have never been ready for more complexity in anything. I was still paying bills by cheque until last November.
Best wishes, Pete.

I saw that something was in the works but hadn’t seen it rolled out yet. Sigh. Hopefully we’ll all be able to continue blogging! 😉

I blog exclusively on my iPhone using the WordPress iOS app. So far, whatever horrors they introduced in 5.9 haven’t yet manifested themselves on the iOS app. Not yet, anyway.

I worked at a university in my previous life. The IT people were constantly breaking things that didn’t need to be fixed in the first place. This meant every time the end-user learned the program they changed everything and had to learn it all over again. We all were out for COVID and came back to more changes. One of the reasons I decided to retire. I figured it was a way for them to keep their jobs.

I lived by the old adage, ‘if it ain’ broke, don’t fix it’. I don’t think anyone born after 1980 knows what that means, Molly.

I’m thinking of studying for an MA in coding so I can continue with my blogging hobby using Mr Blocky! Thanks for ruining my day Pete.

I looked at Twan’s link, and think you will be okay with it. Fancier version of Blocky, and some tweaks you might enjoy. Just looks like gobbledegook to me of course! 🙂
By coincidence, I got an email today from WP, offering to sell me an online course to work out how to use it!
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes I had a look, but it’s all gobblledegook to me too, I need to play with it to get it sorted.

Suddenly I have to log in every time I want to comment on one of your posts Pete, even though I am already logged in…happens for more than half of the blogs I follow….one of th many new “bugs” that has shown up…

I have no doubt it is because WP is ‘fiddling around’ behind the scenes with this new ‘nightmare’, John. It won’t be long before we have to pay for the training courses they sell, just to be able to carry on blogging.
Best wishes, Pete.

I’m right there with you Pete. I hate the block monster, but don’t know where else to go, so I trudge on.

Thanks, Phil. This new version seems more complex. But then most things seem more complex to me these days.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yep Pete, I never considered myself pc literate, just enough to get myself in trouble. I once deleted my blog by mistake but WordPress got it back online. At my age, confusion is part of my day so anything that WP does messes with my head.

Doesn’t look good. I’ll carry on as I am doing for as long as I can: I think I’m using the ‘Classic’ block in the block editor, which just means I have to select it for every paragraph, and then format it in the html editor so it left & right justifies, the way I like it. A bit of a faff, but easy enough, so I hope WP doesn’t change that! Cheers, Jon.

I always worry that they will just change everything overnight. Let’s hope they hold off for a while yet, Jon.

The embed wasn’t working for me either, so I looked up some more information on the new version. I kind of wish I hadn’t… What a confusing, hot mess the new ‘experience’ is.
