After my ‘Mister Grumpy’ moan about my driving licence this morning, we finally got to go to Pensthorpe Bird Park this afternoon, in lovely weather. I had my shorts on, as it was 16C, and a beautiful afternoon.
This predominantly waterfowl park is set in idyllic wetlands near the Norfolk town of Fakenham. It is a mecca for bird-watchers, who travel from all over England to see the ducks and geese.
Despite the fact that it was early in the season, and the Flamingo and Cranes enclosure was closed because of Avian Flu, we spent a leisurely couple of hours wandering around, followed by some delicious cakes and tea in the cafe, before the park closed at 4:30 pm. Ollie could not come with us, as dogs are not allowed, but he wasn’t left alone for long.
I took quite a lot of photos, and they will follow in some posts to come.
Suffice to say it calmed me down considerably.
Thank you in advance for sharing your impressions, Pete! As I have just seen, the first impressions are already coming in your next posting. 😉 Great! xx Michael

Haha! You should post a sock photo. Steve is the same way, grumpy at times but a big softie at heart (especially with dogs.)

Just posted some, with more to follow in other posts. Quite a long way from you in Suffolk, but people do travel there from all over Britain.

It’s worth spending the day there, in good weather. A large area, with lots to see. There is a good cafe/restaurant, or you can take stuff and eat at picnic tables. Huge adventure playground and soft-play for anyone with kids too. We were there for almost 3 hours, and would have stayed longer if some parts were not closed because of Bird Flu.

Nothing like being out in nature to calm you down, and watching birds is very peaceful as you have to be quiet so as not to disturb them. I’m glad you had a good day for it Pete. Seems like we are in for a lovely sunny spell. And spring is almost sprung!

I will post the first lot of photos tomorrow, Jude.

Geese, duck, flamingos, cranes, and other waterfowl flock to Pensthorpe to see what all the people are gawking at.
Here in the Las Vegas Valley, we have the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, Clark County Wetlands Park, and the lake at Sunset Park. An hour away by car is the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge. And, finally, Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is only a 90-minute drive from town. Bird watching is a favorite activity of mine.
