My Easter greetings to everyone who is celebrating today as a religious holiday, whatever your religion. It is one of the few days left when shops still close all day.

We are spending the day quietly, treated just like any other Sunday. This year, we are not even having a traditional roast dinner. Turkey at Easter is still popular here.

Most of you will know that we had a lovely surprise on Friday, the announcement of the ‘secret wedding’ of one of Julie’s daughters on the island of Cyprus.
Congratulations from me to the happy couple.

On the way back from the celebratory family meal, I had warning lights coming on in my car. Investigating in daylight yesterday, it would appear that the ‘sealed coolant system’ is leaking, or the electric fan is not working properly. I had to add water to the overflow tank of the radiator for the first time in 10 years. I am hoping that will cure the issue for now, but I suspect a wallet-emptying visit to a car repairer is on the near horizon. And just when I had finally got permission to drive again too!
(In case you were wondering, my new driving licence has still not arrived after 11 weeks.)

Ollie was supposed to have a much needed bath and claw trim on Thursday. I took him to the groomer that afternoon, only to be told that the lady that looks after him was off sick with Covid-19, and we would have to rebook for another time. There are so many dog-owners in this area that getting an appointment is on a par with obtaining an audience with Queen Elizabeth.

Next weekend, the tree surgeons are returning to finish the rest of the Oak tree in our back garden. (Wind speed permitting.) It seems that finding qualified abseilers who can cut branches is also in the dog-grooming category.

  3. HI Pete, we were the opposite way around. A quiet Friday with a big lunch on Sunday. I’ve heard other pet owners in the UK complaining about the difficulties in getting grooming appointments, there is obviously a business opportunity there.

    We are also spending the holidays very quietly this year.
    Yesterday I had spent a short visit to my sister for a cup of tea. Today my daughter is coming to tea with her husband and child. Everything very relaxed.
    I’m looking forward to my grandson getting to find some Easter candy in my apartment.

  6. Everything is delayed here as well. From workers, to not enough truck drivers, and short supply. The guy who puts fertilizer down on our yard once a year told us most of the fertilizer comes from Russia. So, that says it all. I hope you can get your tree guy out soon, and rebook Ollie for a grooming. Somehow I think you’re right about the car; big bucks ahead. Sigh. Best to you, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Jennie. We have shortages of some food items predicted for next year because of the fertilizer problem. A lesson learned, not to be so reliant on one source of supply.

  8. I celebrated Easter by riding my bicycle out to my daughter’s house to feed her one remaining cat. Then back home for our traditional dinner of white asparagus with (ready-made) hollandaise sauce. Fresh white asparagus is enormously popular over here for a few weeks every year, as long as it is in season.

    (2) Miley Cyprus came in like a wrecking ball, and now life reconstruction begins.
    (3) Funny thing is, even Corey Haim and Corey Feldman have a License to Drive.
    (4) Your grooming appointment with Queen Elizabeth is next Tuesday. Prepare to be groomed for knighthood.
    (5) Joshua tree surgeons are in short supply. Most have deserted their profession.
    (6) Canaan animals include dogs. (Joshua, who outfoxed death until age 110)
    (7) Overheard:
    Tomb Guard #1: “I’m bored. How about we listen to some music?”
    Tomb Guard #2; “Sure. What do you want to hear?”
    Tomb Guard #1: “Something by the Rolling Stones.”

    1. Funny you should mention knighthoods, I think I am long overdue one for my years of public service. I like the idea of Sir Pete, but Lord johnson of Beetley has an even better ring to it. Perhaps you would like to write to The Queen and suggest me for an honour?

      You can write to Her Majesty at the following address:

      If you wish to write a formal letter, you can open with ‘Madam’ and close the letter with the form ‘I have the honour to be, Madam, Your Majesty’s humble and obedient servant’.

      This traditional approach is by no means obligatory. You should feel free to write in whatever style you feel comfortable.

      Get in quick though, she is quite old now… 🙂

  14. Today I had an Easter surprise from WordPress. A survey popped up asking my opinion about the platform. “Would I recommend WordPress to…”
    0=Not a chance
    10=Best thing since sliced bread
    Since Mr Blocky, no prizes for guessing which end of the spectrum I voted.

    1. Thanks, Carolyn. It was the water temperature light. It kept going off and coming on again, then went off completely. Despite that, I suspect something major will have to be repaired or replaced soon. (Unfortunately for my finances.)
