Very Wet Sunday Musings

I was woken up at 4:40 am this morning by the sound of torrential rain hitting the patio outside the bedroom window. I couldn’t get back to sleep, so have now been awake for over four hours. It is still raining, dark inside the house, and only 11C. Welcome to a very British Summer.

At least I managed to cut the grass yesterday afternoon, front and back. It took me almost three hours, and my hands were trembling all evening after that. Ollie helped of course, doing his special task of constantly standing just in front of the powerful hover-mower, oblivious to the fact that it could easily chop off his paws.

—————————————————————————————–

Now the interminable Jubilee celebrations are almost over, I have to call the optician about my eye appointment for the driving licence renewal tomorrow. I might as well get it sorted sooner, rather than later.

——————————————————————————————

Talking of Jubilee celebrations, I was pleased to note that many people were doing what we do best in this country. Fawning, and sycophancy. We are world leaders in both.
If anyone saved their street parties until today, they are going to need their Union Jack umbrellas, by the look of it.

——————————————————————————————–

Ollie is snoring so loudly, I might have to wake him up in a minute. Perhaps the rain disturbed him early too.

Wherever you are, and whatever you are doing, have a peaceful and pleasant Sunday. It looks like it is going to feel like a very long day for me.

  1. Good luck with the test, and I hope the day ended up better than it started. It must have been difficult to ignore everything that was going on, because they kept talking about it even here. Oh, well, at leat it should be over by now.

  2. Well Pete? Guess a bit of ol’ Johnny Nash can’t hurt this morning then, eh? Sing this Diddy on the way to your eye exam because ‘attitude matters” in all things

🎶🎵🎶I can see clearly now, the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-shiny day
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
    Sun-shiny day🎵🎶🎵

Best of Luck on getting the thumbs-up, but I doubt you’ll need it.

    Cheers,

    CT

  3. Can’t you send some – or better, all – of your rain our way? We desperately need it. Some of our grass makes a crunching sound when I walk over it.

  4. While it is and has been raining here, it is not torrential and very quiet. Nonetheless, I have also been up for hours, awake since before 4 and it is nor almost 10. I avoid the computer early as when I do my blog and comments, my day is largely over. I have avoided cutting the grass/weeds, but not for having something to do, rather because I have an aversion to doing so. Nancy is not adverse to turning on the central heat when she gets up. So it is chilly in here until around 9:30. Warmest regards, Theo

  5. (1) Known as the “rain of terror.”
    (2) “At least I managed to cut the grass yesterday afternoon, front and back.” What happens if you only cut the front or back of a blade of grass? Does it still grow?
    (3) “Now the interminable Jubilee celebrations are almost over…” How can something interminable ever be over?
    (4) There is a video of Paddington Bear having tea with the queen. https://www.trendsmap.com/twitter/tweet/1533171491512143874
    (5) Ollie’s snoring is his interpretation of the rainstorm’s thunderclaps.
    (6) It will be along day here in Las Vegas, too. But not as long as it will be on Tuesday, June 21.

  6. My wake-up call is a little cat. Patches arrives now poking and purring as the sun rises which is a bit early and once you stir, the rest decide they are hungry but I’m not doing 11 breakfasts at 5 am. I did get bird food and carrots out before 7 and nuts for the squirrels….We could use a downpour for the garden but today is just a lovely warm, not hot day. I hope yours has warmed up.

    1. Sadly no. As I type this, my hands are cold. But I’ll be buggered if I am going to turn on the central heating in June, especially now that heating oil has trebled in price.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  7. Enjoy your Sunday Pete. For what it’s worth my 22:00hrs flight from the Isle of Man to Gatwick was cancelled last night (after checking in at 19:00) so I had to get a cab back to Douglas and await the 03:00hrs ferry to Liverpool this morning, walk up to Lime Street station, wait for the station to open, catch the 08:18hrs to Euston, walk across to St Pancras and board the 11:25hrs to the coast. Home by 13:30hrs I hope. Then all I have to do is sneak past the ‘Street Party’ unnoticed!
    Have a chilled afternoon.

  8. I dislike waking up too early as I then need a nap in the afternoon and can’t sleep at night…its still raining here by the way and heavily with very loud thunder… I hope your day gets better, Pete 🙂 x

  9. The church service at St Pauls would have had you snoring Pete, it was a dress rehearsal to be fair (if you know what I mean)
