“Sit Anywhere You Like”

In 2015, I wrote about a trip to our local cinema in Dereham. I remarked that we were the only two people in the cinema for the film. At least until it had already started, when two others came into the auditorium and sat at the back. When we bought the tickets on arrival, the lady cashier said to us, “Sit anywhere you like”. Julie took a photo of me sitting there when we were the only two people waiting for the film to start.

A cinema experience

This morning, Julie’s ‘Facebook Memories’ included that photo.

    1. I was loving it, GP. The only people in the whole cinema!
Nobody crunching popcorn, or slurping drinks, or eating hot dogs or ice cream. I could watch my film undisturbed. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. It was a small independent film, and one of my friends was the producer. But it featured the local area, and starred a young man from the very town the cinema is in. Probably too ‘indie’ for the local cinemagoers, John.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  1. Because our local cinema is run on a shoestring [now by the borough council again, after being run by a Sheffield based private company], in the same theatre where I sometimes act, and it still needs volunteers for front of house, so my first daughter & I do that now and again: it’s something I’m happy to do, for many reasons, and I get to watch the films for free, so happy days! 😀 I don’t think I’ve ever seen as few as 2 patrons, but single figures is not unknown; of course, we don’t pay top price for the hire, because it’s always a few weeks behind the first release. Cheers, Jon.

  2. That is a great picture. I often prefer movies the majority is not interested in. So often there are only a few of us in the theatre but never just us! That would be cool.

    1. The strange thing was that the film starred a local boy in his first ever role. Seemed like he couldn’t even get his family and friends to pay to watch it. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.

  3. I’ve been the only one once, and between two and four people quite a few times. Not surprising that the small local cinemas are disappearing, but some are still going. Thanks, Pete!
