I would like to wish all my American blogging friends a very happy Independence Day. I hope that you all have a marvellous time, however you are celebrating it.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the day, Bruce. But sad to be hearing about another mass shooting in Chicago spoiling the day for so many.
Best wishes, Pete.
Pete, I just saw the news about the Highland Park chaos after seeing your comment. It is so sad. That is a suburb of Chicago, and I happen to live in a suburb of Philadelphia. Both of these major cities are experiencing a similar, rising tide of homicides. The mass shootings get the national headlines, but in our region it is sadly almost a daily occurrence when someone is shot.
Paul Revere famously shouted to his fellow countrymen, “Woolen coats dyed with rubia tinctorum are coming! Woolen coats dyed with rubia tinctorum are coming!”
Thanks for the shout-out Pete. In Texas, we are looking at 104 degrees today. Unlike the younger generation, being the children in our public schools and universities, most have no idea what the 4th of July, our independence day is about. They believe it’s another holiday for retail sales and missing work. Geez.
Most Americans have lost the memory of what July 4th is all about. Nowadays it is just another excuse for gluttons to glut and for alcoholics to drink and for dopers to get high.
Thank you, Pete.

In England you can honour the Queen, and maybe soon a new king.
Some Americans had made jokes about your shared past:

Gun use in America is tragic indeed. But they want their guns, at any cost. And this is the cost.
Best wishes, Pete.
