This is my mum photographed in 1994, at her 70th birthday celebration. Now I am the same age she was then.
She died in 2012, and if she had been alive today, it would be her 98th birthday.
As far as I am concerned, it will always be her birthday. She is never forgotten, not for one single moment.

Mum told me that she and her mother sat in their front room one evening and suddenly all the windows imploded from a bomb outside. She looked out when the all-clear was given and half the street had gone.

It was much the same for my mum in Bermondsey. They had an Anderson Shelter in the small garden, but she felt safer at London Bridge Underground Station. She used to walk there alone at night, aged 16.
