I wrote about the forthcoming short heatwave yesterday. It hasn’t officially started yet, though it is set to reach 32C here today nonetheless.
—————————————————————————————-
It is now a month since I passed the DVLA eye test, and still no driving licence has arrived. It will soon be six months since my initial aplication to renew it was submitted. No doubt the staff in Swansea will all be going on summer holiday soon, and there will be more delays.
—————————————————————————————–
Ollie’s fur has started to come out in patches again, set off by the unusually hot weather. His coat now looks like a ‘work in progress’.
—————————————————————————————–
The Conservative Party contenders for Prime Minister continue to stab each other in the back. Westminster is becoming more like the Roman Forum every day, as sneaky leaks abound, and character assassination is the order of the day. Whichever one of them wins, it will be of little consequence to me.
All rats look the same, and do the same things.
——————————————————————————————
One less pleasant aspect of good weather and open windows is increased noise. Petrol mowers, hedge-trimmers, pressure washers, DIY projects, and yapping dogs left in gardens. All congregate together to provide us with a ‘Symphony of Summer’ in Beetley.
——————————————————————————————-
I hope the weather is not too hot where you live, and that you all have a peaceful Sunday.
——————————————————————————————–
I am feeling sorry for Ollie, but as he is not the youngest he has not to look like a dress man. Let’s hope this with renewing your driving license will find a good end. Best wishes, Michael

Ollie doesn’t care what he looks like, which is just as well. 🙂

Thank goodness we have no ‘symphony of summer’, but we do have the heat ramping up. No AC here, and it’s too hot to hit the pool until dinnertime. Thinking of you in your unprecedented heatwave, Pete.

Thanks, Jennie. Yesterday was the hottest day in Britain ever recorded. I certainly noticed the difference!
Best wishes, Pete.

Here in MN, land of lakes, we are in for a week of the hottest days ever. And humidity…

Sounds like we both have the same forecast, Don.

HI Pete, I am sorry to hear about Ollie. I thought of him immediately when I heard the news of a heatwave in the UK. Our winter seems to have come to an early ending and my peach tree is in full bloom already. It is a little weird and scary.

Climate change does seem to be accellerating, I agree. Ollie is sleeping next to me, sitting in the small hallway where it is cooler. (Still 27C at 7:40 pm)
Best wishes, Pete.

Ollie’s in good hands. Stay as cool as possible, especially with that license delay!

Thanks, Bruce. As I passed their eye test, I am going to continue to drive. I refuse to be held prisoner by their ridiculous administrative delays.
Best wishes, Pete.

So many things to distract and dismay us right now Pete…I hope one of those annoying things takes a break in your favor this week, you deserve it! As for politics….so much noise and it’s all disgusting!

Thanks, John. More annoying politics almost upset my day today, but I posted about it on my other blog, to release the anger! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

(1) We have a different word for heatwave here in Southern Nevada: summer.
(2) Obviously, you and the DVLA don’t see eye to eye on driver’s license renewals.
(3) Bluetick Coonhounds refuse to watch “A Patch of Blue.”
(4) Et tu, Britannia?
(5) Symphony Of Summer, aka SOS. (“Help! Send me a heatwave!”)
(6) The high today is only forecast to hit 111° F (44° C), so I’ll have to dig out my thermal underwear, and brush the snow off my ski pants.

44C is only known to me from past holidays in places like Crete, David. I well-remember that heat. Unable to hold a car steering wheel because it was so hot, and having to wear shoes on the beach because the hot sand could burn your feet. Still 30C at night, so impossible to sleep, and even the sea felt like a warm bath.
Best wishes, Pete.

The history of your driver’s license is truly incredible.
I have a relaxing Sunday – read and translate your blog on the PC – I had 4 weeks to catch up. 😉
Soon there will be a delicious late lunch and then all that’s left to do is rest.
Have a nice sunday.
Best wishes, Irene

Summer sounds…another reason I am always glad when it passes! And I concur about the Roman Forum. Poisonous people. I’ve been watching the flight of a butterfly and telling myself how nice it is to have flowers and to enjoy the simple stuff.

Yes, watching/reading too much news does make me angry. I read today that members of the government are charging their Amazon Prime subscriptions to their expenses, paid for by the public. One of them is the Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who earns a salary of £147,000 a year, yet expects us to pay the £79.99 a year for her Amazon service. That is beyond disgusting!
Best wishes, Pete.

How do they deserve such salaries? And they can’t afford Amazon Prime? Grrrr!

And that’s without their second jobs as board members, money paid for ‘public speaking’, free food, free gas and electricity, all private travel claimed on expenses, car and driver supplied, and the cost of renting a second home in London also covered. It is just obscene.

The current heat wave is nothing more than a progression in what has been before and a precursor of what is yet to come. Today’s heat wave temperatures are but a fraction of what they will be in a few years from now.

I do believe you are correct about that, John.

Here [Middlebury/Vermont] it’s supposed to reach just above 30 Celsius, which is considered extremely hot in this area.

It’s peaceful here so far. Hopefully, my idiot neighbor across the street won’t decide to shoot off his guns for an entire afternoon.
LikeLiked by 1 person
That should not be allowed, Liz. It’s bad enough that he can own guns, let alone be able to keep firing them.
Best wishes, Pete.

I know. It’s appalling. When I looked up our town’s ordinances, it’s legal to shoot off your guns as long as you stay at least 300 feet from people’s houses.

What a crazy country! If someone started shooting guns in their garden here, armed police would soon arrive.

I got up to steady rain this morning [7 a.m.] which only lasted about half an hour, but it obviated the need to water my few plants. Just grey & humid now, but thankfully not too warm. Blissfully quiet, now my next door neighbour has gone off for his Sunday morning motor bike ride 😉 . Sorry to hear about your vicissitudes, Pete. I hope you can have a decent day, nonetheless. Cheers, Jon.

No peace in the countryside! I haven’t had an undisturbed night’s sleep in days. Cattle arriving at 3am and complaining, neighbours dogs at 5am and crows at 6am. 😩🥴
