Retro Music 12

In 1972, I heard a record on the radio by a singer I didn’t know. I liked it enough to go out the next day and buy the single, which I played over and over.

Fifty years later, I still enjoy listening to it just as much as I did then.

It was late last night
I was feeling something wasn’t right
There was not another soul in sight
Only you, only you
So we walked along
Though I knew that there was something wrong
And a feeling hit me, oh so strong
About you
Then you gazed up at me
And the answer was plain to see
‘Cause I saw the light
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
Though we had our fling (we had our fling)
I just never would suspect a thing (suspect a thing)
‘Til that little bell began to ring (began to ring)
In my head, in my head
But I tried to run (I tried to run)
Though I knew it wouldn’t help me none (not help me none)
‘Cause I couldn’t ever love no one
Or so I said
But my feelings for you
Were just something I never knew
‘Til I saw the light
In your eyes (in your eyes)
In your eyes (in your eyes)
But I love you best
It’s not something that I say in jest
‘Cause you’re different, girl, from all the rest
In my eyes
And I ran out before
But I won’t do it anymore
Can’t you see the light
In my eyes? (In my eyes)
In my eyes (in my eyes)
In my eyes (in my eyes)
In my eyes (in my eyes)
In my eyes (in my eyes)

  1. As you know well Pete I have been a huge fan and own everything he has released…his hits are truly pop classics, from “Hello It’s Me” to “A Dream Goes On Forever”, “It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference”, “We Gotta Get You A Woman”,”Can We Still Be Friends?” and on and on..this is a terrific slice of pop music with great lyrics…

  2. My man Todd! He has done a ton of work over the decades, produced things like Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell album and the Psychodelic Furs’ album with the classic Love My Way on it (and played guitar and sang on most of them too) and did lots of solo albums and albums with Utopia. I got to spend a couple of weeks with him and other famous musicians at rock and roll camps and got to sing backup on some of these famous songs in person (NOT on the albums). I own a tiny fraction of a tiki bar in Hawaii with him and a bunch of his rockandroll buddies (Tiki Iniki). He is so curmudgeonly and yet I will always love him. He was connected to so much for me even in decades before I knew him in person. His contribution to music and rock culture has been enormous.
