I was 18 in 1970, and rarely showed any interest in what could be called ‘Rock Music’. However, I heard a record on my car radio and decided I just had to buy the single. I think it still sounds very fresh, over 50 years later.

The British Band Free had been around for a couple of years, but this song attracted my attention. They split up three years later, and Paul Rogers went on to form the very successful Bad Company, with members of the bands Mott The Hoople, and King Crimson.

  5. “If you don’t like, you know, Led Zeppelin,” Gary snuffled, rubbed his nose, “I have some Bad Company.”
    “Sounds like me,” Deanna mumbled.
    “What?”
    “Nothing, Gary.”
    “Nothing? Like no music at all?”
    “Gary, don’t think,” she switched on the raadio, “drive.”
    That song works for the time and now because it had a lot of air around the groove. Not a fan but early Aerosmith and AC/DC were good (sometimes) at keeping the clutter out.

      1. When I was a young kid, I was in a local Seattle record store and was going to buy an album from The Edgar Winter Group, who was in town for a concert…the clerk said: “forget them. Their opening band is going to blow them off the stage” and he handed me Bad Company’s debut album…I bought it right then and still have it – just played it the other night!

  12. I did go through a phase of thinking “Oh no, not again”, when I heard this, but as I only hear it very rarely now, I’m fine with it. I always liked Free & Bad Company, and this track is still a firm favourite with covers bands! Cheers, Jon.

  13. Phil’s all time favourite band, got everything they ever did on vinyl,then cd, then all the remastereds 😀 every newspaper and magazine review cut out in scrap books and ticket stubs from gigs. And Alright Now is his least favourite song! 😀 😀
