I was 18 in 1970, and rarely showed any interest in what could be called ‘Rock Music’. However, I heard a record on my car radio and decided I just had to buy the single. I think it still sounds very fresh, over 50 years later.
The British Band Free had been around for a couple of years, but this song attracted my attention. They split up three years later, and Paul Rogers went on to form the very successful Bad Company, with members of the bands Mott The Hoople, and King Crimson.
There she stood in the street
Smiling from her head to her feet
I said hey, what is this
Now baby, maybe she’s in need of a kiss
I said hey, what’s your name baby
Maybe we can see things the same
Now don’t you wait or hesitate
Let’s move before they raise the parking rate
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
I took her home to my place
Watching every move on her face
She said look, what’s your game baby
Are you tryin’ to put me in shame
I said slow don’t go so fast
Don’t you think that love can last
She said love, Lord above
Now you’re tryin’ to trick me in love
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now
All right now baby, it’s all right now

Holy flashback, Batman! I’m back in the 9th grade at good ole Enosburg Falls High School.

Does 9th grade make you 14 at the time, Liz? We have a different system here.
Best wishes, Pete.

“If you don’t like, you know, Led Zeppelin,” Gary snuffled, rubbed his nose, “I have some Bad Company.”
“Sounds like me,” Deanna mumbled.
“What?”
“Nothing, Gary.”
“Nothing? Like no music at all?”
“Gary, don’t think,” she switched on the raadio, “drive.”
That song works for the time and now because it had a lot of air around the groove. Not a fan but early Aerosmith and AC/DC were good (sometimes) at keeping the clutter out.

As I said, I was rarely a Rock fan. A few slipped through the net though.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, I just put on the debut Bad Company album recently and it holds up even today – what a great band!

I never really followed them, John. They were very popular here though.

When I was a young kid, I was in a local Seattle record store and was going to buy an album from The Edgar Winter Group, who was in town for a concert…the clerk said: “forget them. Their opening band is going to blow them off the stage” and he handed me Bad Company’s debut album…I bought it right then and still have it – just played it the other night!

I only heard music when I was driving to/from work/school and seem to have missed a whole lot. I do remember this one.

You missed out on a huge part of youth culture, Carolyn. That makes me sad.

I did miss quite a bit, but I have also been fortunate in many ways. Having seen the way so much of humanity lives and suffers, I could never complain.

It’s the only song I know by this band, and one of my all-time favorites.

One of my favourites. We saw Bad Company play at Brighton a few years back – great concert.

I wasn’t a fan of Bad Company, but I was aware that they had a huge following.

And Paul Rodgers looked so fetching in his white vest and leather trousers…

I did go through a phase of thinking “Oh no, not again”, when I heard this, but as I only hear it very rarely now, I’m fine with it. I always liked Free & Bad Company, and this track is still a firm favourite with covers bands! Cheers, Jon.

It has been played to death over the years, I agree.

Phil’s all time favourite band, got everything they ever did on vinyl, then cd, then all the remastereds 😀 every newspaper and magazine review cut out in scrap books and ticket stubs from gigs. And Alright Now is his least favourite song! 😀 😀

Glad to pick a band that Phil likes, even if it was the wrong song. I actually prefer ‘Wishing Well’, but it was this song that I bought first. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

It was one of the few rock songs I ever bought on record, Darlene. I still like it now.
