  1. If it hadn’t been for James Taylor forcing her onstage to sing her own songs, we’d never have gotten to hear her. King’s songs are cornerstones and career signatures in so many genres… She is living proof a good song is universal in appeal. And since the Monkees might not have made a single season without her, here’s one of the most beautiful, succinct love songs written, performed by, frightenly enough, a guy who could, in another situation, have been a great rock singer.

  2. One of the greatest. Most forget she also wrote for others ie Locomotion for Little Eva + Beachboys, Hi de ho for Blood Sweat & Tears, One Fine Day for the Chiffons, I’ll Do My Crying In The Rain for the Everly Bros, You’ve Got A Friend for James Taylor, Oh No Not My Baby for Mannfred Mann, several for the Monkees, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow for the Shirelles, Halfway to Paradise for Billy Fury,
but her best as singer were I Feel The Earth Move, Its Too Late, Been to Canaan, Sweet Seasons & of course You’re So Vain.
I look forward to when ‘Beautiful’ her musical comes to town.
    She will be 81 soon.

      1. Ahhh well spotted Phil, of course it was, easy to get Carole, Carly & Roberta Flack all mixed up. BTW Mick Jagger sings briefly on Carly’s song.
