In 1966, Junior Walker and The all Stars had a huge hit in Britain with the .45 single ‘Road Runner’. I bought the album, and enjoyed many of the tracks. Three years later, they released a slow song that appealed to me immediately, and I bought it the same day. Another big hit from the Tamla-Motown label.

In my opinion this past was the most productive time for good music. Thanks for sharing, Pete xx Michael

Since my exposure to music was all on the radio it wasn’t until I began to buy albums that I even knew the ethnicity of any of the musicians. Album covers came as a surprise to me.

We had posters advertising new albums, and I also bought music magazines and specialist newspapers. So I was almost always aware of the ethnic origin of the singer or group.

I lived in a nearly totally white world and it never even occurred to me when young that there were Black singers!

I always liked the jazzy feel of this song, Pete.

Carolyn also suggested ‘Jazz’, but I don’t get that feeling from this song. I always thought of it as ‘Motown Soul’. 🙂

I think it’s the saxophone that gives me the feel of jazz. Definitely Motown, though.

I understand the appeal of jazz but I have never liked it. I don’t know why because I like almost (not quite) everything else.

I wouldn’t call this Jazz. I actually like a lot of Jazz, especially Miles Davis.
Best wishes, Pete.

It was, and I was a young mom too. So my son and I love a lot of the same music. He plays in a band and they often play music we listened to together as he was growing up. On the rare occasion that I am in the audience, he always dedicates a song to me.
