Jackie Wilson was well-known for the classic song ‘Reet Petite’ from 1958, and later had a huge hit in Britain with ‘Higher and Higher’, in 1967. I am choosing a song from the following year that also appealed to me a lot when I was 16. I played this to death!
The closer you get the better you look baby
The better you look the more I want you
When you turn on your smile
I feel my heart go wild
I’m like a child with a brand new toy
And I get the
Sweetest feeling
Hunny the sweetest
Baby the sweetest
Loving you
The warmer your kiss
The deeper you touch me baby
The deeper your touch
The more you thrill me
Its more than I can stand
Girl when you hold my hand
I feel so grand that I could cry
And I get the
Sweetest feeling
Mumma the sweetest
Baby the sweetest
Loving you
The greater your love
The stronger you hold me baby
The stronger you hold
The more I need you
With every passing day
I love you more in every way
I’m in love to stay
And I wanna say
I get the
Sweetest feeling
Baby the sweetest
Hunny the sweetest
Loving you
Huh
Baby the sweetest
Sweetest

I don’t remember this song. Loved “Higher and Higher”, especially when it was in a Ghostbuster movie.

I’m surprised so few people know this song. It was a big hit in the UK.

Most music has a signature style, quite often hidden, that gives it that sound, but no one knows how. I often say to my boy “what instrument is that in the background”. With Motown it is the Vibraphone. Now i mention it you will now all notice. It made Motown.

Time isfunny, yes?
10 year old and a 22 year old is obscene. Add a decade and it is fine.

Can’t say I’m fond of the song (though it’s earworming me now!) but what a sad ending he had.

He did indeed. Doesn’t matter if you don’t like the song. We can’t all like the same things. 🙂

Was he the one who was in a coma for about 10 years?

Yes, from 1975 until he died in 1984. He was 49 years old when he died.
Best wishes, Pete.

I wonder what caused the coma? I’ll have to look him up.

He had a heart attack on stage, then hit his head as he fell. He never came round.
